Leigh Centurions 54 Hull Kingston Rovers 4

By Matt Lawton
June 29 2003
The Centurions recovered from last weekend's disappointing defeat to Salford to destroy in-form Hull Kingston Rovers in a cake walk at Hilton Park.
Leigh had the match tied up by half time when four tries had given Leigh a 28-0 lead at the break which never seemed under threat against a Rovers side bereft of ideas, although the Robins twice had tries disallowed by referee Peter Taberner.

The match started at a rip-roaring pace with both sides starting well. Leigh took the lead though through Damian Munro.

Leroy Rivett scored 2 tries on his return to the side, announcing his comeback with a superb try in the second half where he outpaced the whole Rovers side in a thrilling 90 metre run which ended in him going over the whitewash.

Leigh's hunger and ruthlessness was certainly back with aplomb, although their concentration seemed to dip towards the end of the game.

Adam Bristow, another from Munro, John Duffy and Dale Holdstock both went over the Centurions. However, Leigh's victory was overshadowed by what looked like a very bad injury to young scrum half Lee Sanderson.
