Lots to Think About

Two games gone, no points no goals and bottom of the league. The only way is definitely up and therer were enough good signs on Saturday to show that things will get better better for Colin Cooper and Craig Hignett .   

The most cheering aspect was the effort and commitment put in by a very young side. It was a tragedy for Darren Holden that it was his poor clearance which led to the only goal of the game ,but he went on to have a fine game.

Once they were a goal up Southend were able to absorb the loss of bustling centre forward Barry Corr for a daft bit of retaliation on Jack Baldwin shortly after a  mass push and shove when Neil Austin was booked.

Corr is the type of player we desperately need. He put himself about, held the ball up and kept our two young centre havles on their toes.

By comparison we had a lank haired Luke James huffing and puffing and looking to feed on scraps. Such was the dearth of opportunity that some sections of the crowd actually cheered Steve Howard when he replaced James in the second half.

Howard did have a bigger impact but fell over in the box when set up for what looked like being one of our better chances.

There were postives in the form of James Poole and Simon Walton who had replaced an injured Tony Sweeney but we scarcely had a shot on target all game.

So what to do apart from find a striker from somehere? How about playing two up front, bringing back Collins' experience at centre half and moving Baldwin into the middle for starters.
