Colin Cooper and Craig Hignett have come in and made all the usual upbeat statements. You would expect that but there is a growing unease at the Mail's daily insistence that we will be relying on Boro's up and coming youth team ..

Where is the future in that?

No doubt Cooper and Hignett have ambitions of taking over at the Riverside one day. Jolly good luck to them if that's achieved on showing how they took oevr a relegated team, galvanised it by putting some fire in the bellies of existing players, and shrewdly strengthened the squad on the transfer market.

What long term use is it to Pools if they bring in some of their fomer young proteges at the expense of our own up and coming talent? It may be a lot of use to Boro but hey fiddledy dee.

When was the last time a loan  signing came in and did us a power of good? Undoubtedly talented loan players only ever seem to give 70 per cent. They have one eye on their own club, they want the experience of playing in the league cos the Gaffer told them it was a good idea. What they don't want is the  injury threat that goes with it. E.G.  Charlie Wyke.

So come on Coops II. Have a look at the squad you've inherited ,and at those glowing young men who sit in the Mill House stand in their blue tracksuits at every home game, and only go into the loan market if there really is a position you and Hignett feel you cannot filll with one of our own.
