Hang on a minute ... is that result in League One correct? Wycombe, bottom of the table and favourites for relegation, won 5-0 against a Hartlepool United side hitting such good form recently that the p-word has even been mentioned.
Yes it is right, and the p-word (p for play-offs) can now be forgotten.
With four new on-loan players in their team, Wycombe capitalised on a mistake-ridden Pools performance to win just as easily as the score suggests.
Gary Liddle missed out through injury, and he’s probably glad he did because this was a real horror show.
But at least Neale Cooper was honest.
“Everyone was terrible,” he admitted to the club website.
“The back four looked like they’d never played together. We couldn’t have prepared better ,… there was a good buzz and then bang, totally useless from the first minute to the end.
“I can just apologise for it, but these things happen in football and today we just gave them everything they got. Every goal was our mistake … they know every one of them was woeful.”
You can’t say fairer than that … the only consolation is that they can’t be as bad again when they go to Bury.
Can they?
