Goals from James Brown and Tony Sweeney were enough to overcome a poor Bury side. A win which was especially sweet as it means Hartlepool have now done the double over Martin Scott

Hartlepool made it 13 games unbeaten after beating Bury 2-0 at Victoria Park

 

Goals from James Brown and Tony Sweeney were enough to overcome a poor Bury side. A win which was especially sweet as it means Hartlepool have now done the double over Martin Scott

 

Hartlepool started off the brighter of the 2 sides and it only took 5 minutes for Hartlepool to challenge the Bury goalkeeper. Andy Monkhouse crossed the ball in from the right wing and James Browns header was tipped over the bar by the Bury goalkeeper.

 

Just 2 minutes later Richie Barker flicked on a Ritchie Humphreys throw in and Sweeney volleyed the ball just wide of the target. On 12 minutes Hartlepool hit the post. Ritchie Humphreys whipped in a free kick from the left and James Brown flicked his header onto the post.

 

Bury’s first real chance of the game came on 25 minutes. Andy Bishop cut in from the right wing but places his shot over the crossbar.

 

On 33 minutes Hartlepool took the lead. E Williams made a short run down the right wing before playing a low cross in for James Brown to place into the net. It was an impressive move by Pools and minutes later Brown could have doubled the lead but he failed to get onto the end of an Andy Monkhouse cross

 

Half Time

The second half was only 8 minutes old when Hartlepool doubled the lead. Tony Sweeney collected the ball on the half way line and dribbled it at the defence before curling the ball inside the far post from 25 yards.

 

I think now would be a good time to mention the most popular man in the ground. That right, Martin Scott! The man who screwed Hartlepool United. After the second goal went in the chants soon started. ‘Scotty what’s the score’, and a few others that I can’t really mention.

 

The game wasn’t over though and on 71 minutes Andy Bishop put the ball in the back of the Pools net but the goal was disallowed for a foul by a Bury player in the Pools box.

 

Towards the end Bury had lots of possession but they only had one shot on target throughout the whole game and in the end it was a pretty comfortable game for Pools
