In yesterdays preview I wrote: “With Premiership points at a premium Wenger needs to hold back Henry, Bergkamp and Pires. So it has to be said that this squad doesn’t look full of goals; at the same time it could concede one or two against a bustling opposition.

A draw, or even a narrow defeat, where we get an away goal, could prove to be very handy."

So we got a narrow defeat, we are still in it.

I knew it would be shyte so I didn’t bother to watch it. As far as I know Wigan deserved to win. Some Arsenal fans think Wenger should put out a stronger team for the second leg.

Yet Arsenal have 5 games in next 20 days, so get real, if he can win it with his usual odds and ends he will, but if he loses he won’t worry. He needs points in the Premiership, and Europe comes up soon. Kolo and Eboue have been forced to stand down by the Ivory Coast, Campbell and RvP injured, Cole still recovering. As it was Almunia got bruised ribs, what other risks should be taken?

What manager would wear out his key players for the Lager Cup? Martin Jol I suppose, but then he is desperate, and still lost.

Things you never hear on the terraces anymore these days (an occasional series).

"Trouble with Wenger is he never gives the youth a proper go."
