I'm happy with Tomi.. It makes for window quite a lot better at least in paper.

Physically seems much better and will be able to fill in on a couple of positions and will almost certainly star at RB.

He is tall and hopefully will help on set pieces.

Im not too worried about outgoings as we need to stop worrying about money like other supporters.

My biggest gripe was RB. He at least looks quicker than Chambers and Bellerin in the videos and that's enough for me for now..

Had we gotten in a young striker and sold Laca abs Eddie, it would have been a great window under the circumstances.

But if I'm being totally objective, Nketiah was actually moving the ball really well in pre season and seemed to have done some work on his close control and shooting which was the only question mark on him really.. God work rate and poaching instincts are not really in question.

Balogun has looked completely out of sorts this season in terms of running at speed even off the ball, so I'm willing to give some leeway to Eddie.
Hope he performs well and proves me wrong.

With Tomi's signing, Arteta has no excuses. Our right side of defense has been a thorn in the flesh for 3 years now. Hopefully this has put an end to that.

Arteta on his team's first away victory at a club above them in the Premiership since September 2015 at Leicester.

Underwhelming transfer window imo. Did not sufficiently address the midfield creativity and goal scoring from midfield issues. Spent too much on White who struggled against Brentford when dealing with high balls - which should be bread and butter for defenders in the EPL. Lokonga is a very good prospect but with Partey proving to be very injury proned, adding Bissouma would make more sense. With Xhaka staying on a new contract, I don't think Arteta will have the b@lls to drop Xhaka for another DM to partner Partey. Tavares is still raw and keeping Kolasinac as backup to Tierney makes sense for the time being. Ramsdale is definitely a good backup keeper compared to Runarrson but at a price which would have been better spent on another creative midfielder besides Odegaard. Tomiyasu seems like a good defender but this is his first exposure to the physicality of the EPL after stints in the Italian, Belgium and Japanese leagues - it will be a test for him. Getting Willian off the payroll is a win for Edu and Arteta though they must take the blame for the deal in the first place. Also good to get others like Bellerin, Nelson and Runarrson off on loan. The AMN situation could have been handled better and not spilled into the public domain.

I think it's been a dreadful window TBH.

Let's start with Edu and Garlick. They have failed miserably, If you compare them to their Chelsea counterparts, who have somehow managed to make a profit this summer. and signed established world class players.

We also overspent on players.

You also have to question Arteta decisions on what positions we needed to improve and his decisions to loan and sell certain players. You also have to question his chioce of signings. I 've made my feelings clear on this so there's no need for .e to go over it again.

I'd give the window a 3 out of 10

We can't do anything now we just have to hope these younger players surprise us. I believe we'll start playing decent football once we get everyone back.

I hate to say it but creativity comes from Wide areas for most teams.

Most bad teams (we are a bad team) have defenders /Defensive midfielders who spray the ball wide quickly to key players players like Son, Zaha, Salah, Mahrez, Cantwell, etc who are then responsible for creating for their teams.

I agree we lack goals from midfield but we aren't really going for top 4.

The biggest improvement in creativity needs to come from Saka, ESR, Odegaard and Pepe supported by Martinelli, Auba, Lokonga abd Partey.

I mean if our wide men do not improve on their final balls, Pepe (1 assist), Saka (3 assists) we are @#$%&.

Our solution to creativity really needs to be "internal" this time.

We definitely needed a right back and we apparently got one in Tomi.
Whether it works out time will only tell.
But it will fill the seats with happy little Japanese tourists.

Otherwise a poor underwhelming window
Not really sure if we had a plan for who we wanted.
Seemed to go for players who basically wasn't wanted it seems.

We still have forwards who can score. Getting the ball to them will still be a problem.
Saka, Pepe, ESR and Odegaard will have to improve.
And I still think they are to lightweight.

Not feeling confident about the season.

Can't just rely on our wide players to create. It is certainly an attacking option. Problem is we do not have strong forwards who can attack the crosses/passes from wide areas. ManCity attacks alot from the wings with high accurate crosses but they put a lot of their players in the box to attack the crosses or pick up the rebounds. With Silva departing, they brought in Grealish to complement De Bruyne who both can bring the ball up the middle and make passes behind the opposing defence. Partey tries that but he is not the most accurate passer from deep. Odegaard can run and carry the ball thru the middle but it would be ideal to have another attacking midfielder who can do that on a regular basis. Xhaka can't carry the ball up field and relies on long balls over the opposing defence for our forwards to latch on but he is far from accurate or consistent (provided he is not sent off already).

A difficult transfer window for most euro clubs.
And we’re probably above the average, as far as success in it, is concerned.
To those who say it’s underwhelming, remember the worst part of not playing in Europe is attracting quality.
ATM the only way we belong in the same sentence as Chelsea is if it has something to do with London.
We have spent a lot of money getting good, young players, not top quality players because we’re not in Europe.
If, in 7mths, we get a change of ownership/management and investment, these transfers will be easy to let go or keep.
I am still concerned with our MF and felt getting rid of Xhaka and getting a replacement was an important part of our transfer business this passed window. I know we tried, but we should not have had as hard a time to get the transfer done as what happened. It needed to be done.
I would of thought that there were more swap deals done, because of the financial climate, but very few were concluded. Too hard basket I suspect.

Since the end of WW1, 1919, when the FA restarted its 4 tier football league, with Arsenal fc in the 1st div, there’s only ever been one club to have never been relegated from Div 1/ EPL.

1) Tavares looks raw but has potential to excite and adds to our left back options without taking much away from our attacking potential in that position. Hope we never see him at RB again though.
2) Early days and he has some filling out to do, but Lokonga looks a great find. Like his confidence on the ball a lot.
3) I like Ben White as a player and with Arteta's use of Luiz/ alleged pursuit of Upamecano it's obvious he really wants a top ball-player in that position. However, when we still haven't given Saliba a chance and our midfield/ attack needed further investment, I don't think £50 million on him was the right move.
4) I liked Ramsdale at Bournemouth (although admittedly I thought he was sh*t for Sheffield United) and I don't think he is as bad as many make out, but its a lot of money for somebody who'll likely be our second choice keeper this season as things stand. Having said that, he looked good against Albion in the cup and I think I'd probably put him in against Norwich over Leno.
5) I like Odegaard as a player, although I wasn't blown away by his loan spell. I think he inhibits Saka by playing in similar areas, lacks a bit of intensity and doesn't really answer our immediate need for more goal contributions. Having said all of that, I'm not sure how much better we could've done for the fee. Maddison would've cost at least double...
6) Can't pretend I'm hugely familiar with Tomiyasu but looking at his stats, reading scouting reports and watching YouTube vids, it looks like he fits what Arteta wants in that position, i.e. a right back who is tall, athletic, strong defensively and tactically can tuck in to make a back three, allowing Tierney the freedom to bomb on. Whether that's how you personally want us to play is down to you...

Clearly a lot of issues still remain.

1) We haven't addressed this side's desperate need for goals. End product is what youngsters develop last generally, so is it realistic or even fair for us to expect Smith Rowe and Saka to add goals to their games this early? Odegaard as well. How much will Martinelli play? We're still largely relying on Aubameyang and Pepe because otherwise I don't see where the goals are coming from. Hope I'm wrong.
2) Maitland-Niles understandably wants out. No realistic offers came in for him. Apparently he and Arteta have held clear the air talks and he is going to stay now, but we've also signed a new right back. How is he going to be used? Time will tell...
3) I'm p*ssed off Xhaka and Elneny are still here. The Xhaka thing this summer has been particularly embarrassing. I wanted the whole midfield gone bar Partey, Willock and maybe Guendouzi (had we been able to work things out), and for us to basically start again. Midfield still looks very average and come AFCON time we'll potentially be left with just Xhaka, Lokonga, and AMN. Right at the end of the window it became apparently that Houssem Aouar and Renato Sanches could've both been available for loan. Surely something we should've looked at?
4) I'm still upset we've had to sell Willock because there were no offers for anyone else.
5) A decent man-manager would've done a better job of working things out with Saliba and Guendouzi. Two great talents with loads of potential, who should be in our squad but instead are starring for Marseille. So frustrating and wasteful.
6) We were unable to attract bids for Lacazette and Nketiah was apparently unable to agree personal terms with Crystal Palace. This probably prevented us bringing in another centre forward and also means as things stand both are likely to leave for free next summer, along with Leno, Chambers, Elneny and Kolasinac (if they don't go to Turkey in the next week or so). Bizarrely, somehow, Mari and Cedric still have another two years to run after that!

So we've lowered the average age of the squad and (I think) lowered the wage bill despite being one of the league's bigger spenders. I think we've overspent on White and Ramsdale really but the rest look like good fees on paper to me. CM and CF needed further investment so expecting us to strengthen there next year. LW as well.

Although we got a fee for Willock and Willian left, Mavropanos, Guendouzi, Saliba,Torreira, Bellerin and Runarsson are all still arsing about out on loan, which isn't ideal. Leno, Holding, Cedric, Mari, Elneny, Nketiah, Kolasinac and Xhaka are all still here. Maybe the current market makes it difficult but it is still pretty poor. Surely Edu must pay with his job at some point?

You missed a crucial part of my post... I said "bad teams".
And bad teams are teams which do not have great players in the back 6 (GK, defense and CMs) to start attacks quickly or have players who haven't played together for 2/3 years to have that kind of understanding.

We have both. You can put all the Odegaard s, De Bruyne's, Fabregases and Aouars in front of them and nothing will change. Why are we even comparing with Man city? We are bottom of the league. This delusion must stop.
No team in the bottom half plays with 2/3 exciting creators and abundance of chances.
Wolves rely heavily on Adama, as do Spurs on Son and Kane to play him through.

Can you please tell me one team where their wide men have 4 assists combined?
In not saying Saka is @#$%&, but i have seen him miss enough easy passes or choose the wrong pass on the counter attack or not take good shots.

I'm not saying if he doesn't develop quickly, it's his fault. My point is we can buy whoever we want at AM, nothing will improve until Pepe or Saka start scoring more to take the burden off Auba or if we start passing quickly from the back to launch counter attacks.

We are a bottom half team. Bottom half teams play on the break and do not rely on exceptional play making/creativity to score. For basic Creativity, we have ESR, Odegaard, Lokonga and Partey. That should be ok for a the team that is aiming to finish 8-12th.

The summer transfer window has now closed and Arsenal got through a lot more business than you might have been expected at the start of it.

That being said, quite how, or why, Sead Kolasinac, Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny are still at the club is a bit of a mystery. The window in Turkey is open for another week, so we could maybe shift one, if not two of them, still.

Across the men’s, women’s and youth teams, Arsenal brought in a total of 10 players. 16 left on loan, nine were sold or left for free, one had his contract terminated and 10 players renewed their contracts. Although they will receive loan fees, Arsenal received a transfer fee for just one player – Joe Willock.

Let’s run through all those deals now:

Arsenal contract renewals

1. Kieran Tierney Kieran Tierney signed a new long-term deal with the club. Previous reports on the contract extension suggest it will run until 2026 and earn him over £100,000-a-week.
2. Leah Williamson. Leah Williamson signed what is believed to be a one-year extension to her contract.
3. Arthur Okonkwo. Arthur Okonkwo extended his contract with Arsenal and received a promotion to the first-team squad as their number three goalkeeper.
4. Emile Smith Rowe contract extension
5. Kido Taylor-Hart 3-year contract extension
6. Mazeed Ogungbo signed first professional contract

Arsenal transfers out – permanent deals

1. Trae Coyle – Signed for FC Lausanne-Sport. Trae Coyle completed a permanent transfer, signing a long-term deal with the Swiss Super League side, ending 12 or so years in North London.
2. Zech Medley – Signed for K.V. Oostende. Medley spent four-and-a-half years with the Gunners after joining from Chelsea, though he was always an Arsenal boy at heart.Oostende have confirmed that Medley signed a deal to 2025, with an option for a further year.
3. Mark McGuinness – Signed for Cardiff City. Mark McGuinness has joined Cardiff City on a permanent deal, bringing an end his 10-year-spell at the club. He signed a professional contract with the club in 2019.

6. Ben Sheaf – Signed for Coventry City.Sheaf signed a three-year deal with his new club, moving for an undisclosed fee.
7. Jill Roord – Transfer to Wolfsburg. Arsenal sold Jill Roord to Wolfsburg for an undisclosed fee. The midfielder signed a three-year contract until June 30, 2024.
8. Tolaji Bola – Transfer to Rotherham United for an undisclosed fee.
9. Joe Willock – Signed for Newcastle on a six-year deal. Arsenal will receive around £22m.

1. Konstantinos Mavropanos – Stuttgart on loan with option to buy (€7m).
2. Daniel Ballard – Loan with Millwall. Reports suggested at least five Championship clubs were interested in Ballard, as well as some clubs overseas. Blackpool were particularly keen to bring him back after the centre-back spent the 2020/21 campaign on loan with them.
3. Matt Smith – Doncaster Rovers on loan. Matt Smith will spend another year in League One, with the young Arsenal midfielder joining Doncaster Rovers.
4. Matteo Guendouzi – Loan to Marseille with obligation to purchase (€1m + €11m).

Tierney on 100k now.

The good news is that teams in American professional sports will go into rebuilding mode that will take a few years before they make the playoffs. Silent Stan will understand that. The bad news is there is no concept of relegation in American sports where revenue streams are severely impacted for the relegated team. Silent Stan will find this hard to understand and accept especially after spending close to 160m pounds on players.

Can Arsenal survive a few years of mediocrity without getting relegated? Will Arsenal fans have the patience?

ARSENAL: DAVID ORNSTEIN DISCUSSES CLUB’S TRANSFER BUSINESS

Journalist David Ornstein has given his view on Arsenal’s transfer window and what the club will look like going forward.

As this article from Sky Sports shows, whilst Arsenal were not the most active Premier League club in the transfer market when it came to bringing people in, they were certainly the biggest spenders as their transfer business totalled £131.8m in terms of net spend as they brought in the likes of Ben White, Aaron Ramsdale and Martin Odegaard to name just a few.

Given the disappointment that was last season, it’s clear to see that the Gunners are trying to rectify the situation as soon as they can whilst also looking to the future, with all of their signings this window being under the age of 25.

And speaking about their business in the window during a live stream for The Athletic, Ornstein claimed that the club had done some good business in his eyes – but that fans should wait a while before they can expect any sort of decent return:

“I think the business in and out has been good. But, the full effect and manifestation of how good, will not be seen for a fair while to come, because these are all pretty much signings for the future. The outgoings, well, we’ll judge once we see how Arsenal cope without them.

“And I think – people won’t want to hear this – but the fans are going to have to stay patient. That’s not something that’s welcome when are Arsenal sitting bottom of the table, but the club believe in a long-term project, for right or for wrong, they believe in Mikel Arteta for the time being.

“And I’m really fascinated to see how it pans out, because I think individually, if you take the finances out of it, Arsenal have made some really impressive signings.”

Ornstein is right to some extent when he says that the deals have been right ‘if you take the finances out of it’.

Because Arsenal have done what they needed to do: they brought in a new central defender in White to replace David Luiz, a goalkeeper in Ramsdale to compete with – and potentially replace – Bernd Leno, and a creative midfielder in Odegaard to replace the hole left by Mesut Ozil last summer.

And whilst they may look expensive, if they were players that the club felt like they desperately needed to get, then they did the right thing in making sure they got them rather than missing out by going cheap.

As Ornstein also points out, given the ages of the players that they have brought in, they are certainly players for the future, it’s just going to be a case of whether or not Arteta is going to be allowed to stick around to manage them.

Because whilst Ornstein says the hierarchy believe in Arsenal to succeed, given their recent run of form, that patience could well be put to the test in the coming weeks, but on the playing side at least, it looks as if the club could be set in those positions for years to come.

Like any youngsters we don't really know what's going to happen to them.

Yeah, this is accurately a rebuilding year. Not a chance we make top 4. If we can get back to Europe the season it will be a success. Think we have two good defenders in Saliba and Ballard in waiting for next season. Would have preferred Saliba to be here now, but not if Arteta didn't plan on playing him. Hopefully the players brought in will be an improvement in transition to the attack and Auba, Laca and Pepe can benefit with goals. Forget about us matching up with the top 4 teams. We'll have to do our business vs. the rest. Would finishing 6th or 7th be decent for this season? Hard to accept we've fallen so far that this is our reality; the players we've added should help us improve.

Arsenal’s much-vaunted ‘project’ is still far from complete and, according to The Athletic, new additions in central midfield and up front will be next on the agenda.
