Arsenal Learn From Alkmaar Hammers Fight Racism at Agincourt
France go 2 up
By Boris Mellor
October 25 2009
So what did Arsenal learn from throwing away a one nil lead away at Alkmaar? Answer: they learnt how to throw away a two goal lead, and draw when they could have just as easily won. Wenger believes his defence has improved, well on this performance he needs to go back to the opticians, because he is not seeing the full picture here.
Arsenal failed a big test today; they demonstrated that they cannot beat the teams below them on a regular and ruthless basis. A team that cannot hold a two goal lead is not a real contender. The theory that we can outscore every team we meet is as charming as it is patent nonsense.
I can't be bothered to report this in full, it doesn't need it, and it can be done in three sentences. Here goes:
Arsenal score against run of play, but then dominate and go two up.
Team lacks killer instinct and fails to score a vital third against desperate team.
Team takes foot of the gas and glass jaw defence fails to defend free kick and then allows itself to be mugged for a penalty.
West Ham Kick out Racismat Agincourt
As Wenger strolled around at half time wearing his green Kick it Out Badge the West Ham announcer made his contribution to the cause. "Anniversary of Agincourt. Can we beat the French in the second half?"
No doubt they intended to fill our wall with their English dead with those well known Cockerneys: Kovac, Diamanti, Behrami, Ilunga and Franco.
Stop Press Wenger Has Learnt
Wenger has explained that he has learnt from throwing games away, it is not throw them away even more, I apologise for suggesting that above. What he has learned is, "We have to play the football we love and learn when we are leading to kill the games off and keep playing the way we want to play the game."
Well that's a relief I can't wait to see this revolutionary new approach.
Now the good news
A draw was enough to put Arsenal in third place with a game in hand. A chance to gain three points rather than just one on Man U was given away, but with Spurs losing and City drawing at home the Gunners position in the top four is looking a little more secure. With 29 goals Arsenal remain the leading scorers in the Premiership and are still on target for over a 100 goals. They are also on target to concede over 50, not so good news.
The worst thing about throwing away this two goal lead is that it gives all future opponents more belief that even if they are a goal or even two down to us that they still have a good chance, if we had put WHU to the sword as we should have at 2 - 0 it would have put doubts in other teams minds.
Its much much more than two points dropped and is every bit as bad as the 4 - 4 v spuds last season.
Team will have a go and take setpieces more carefully.
Theodore roosevelt - In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.
I agree Eduardo, teams will also @#$%& about in our penalty area looking for easy pens. We are so naieve. Wenger keeps saying they are learning but they never do.
I dont believe Spurs can beat us at home as we will outscore them, but I will be on the edge of my seat until the 94th minute even if we are three nil up.
How Wenger cam claim we are defending better this year is beyond me
-we will concede less goals this season ; really?
-we need a 2nd goal to be sure of winning; you wish!!!
This lack of concerntration has become a big joke. why is it that whenever arsenal need to capitalize on other top contenders slip up's,that is when they mess up big time........
this team has learnt nothing......i would love to hear each and everyone of them really come out and be frank with the fans and tell us what their target and ambition for this season is because from all indications they have no serious ambition with the way they have been playing lately. to throw away a one goal lead is bad enough but to throw away 2 goals lead in 7 mintues is not just pathetic but damn right disgusting...........
totally soured my day yesterday.
Can We Now Trust The Process 🤔🤷🏿♀️ or Should We Still Remain Cautious 🙇🏿♀️
Padre I agree Eduardo, teams will also @#$%& about in our penalty area looking for easy pens. We are so naieve. Wenger keeps saying they are learning but they never do.
exactly and its not only wenger who is saying that we are learning from the mistakes we made from last season adn this season
just on wednesday sagna came out and said that he was disappointed with not getting all 3 pts and that we will learn from this mistake
according to sky teams get money for every point won, and its something like 165K a point, it may be a little less, not sure if they said it cost us 350K or 250K
Ive constantly been told on here Wenger has sorted things out and he knows best, but the excact smae mistakes are being made now as years ago.Thats not coincidence but is irresponsible.
