Johnson backs England Women’s world cup chances

England Team Manager Martin Johnson was showing his support for the England Women’s World Cup squad yesterday (Thursday) when he visited the team at Surrey Sports Park in Guildford, the venue of the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2010 (WRWC).
Johnson backs England Women’s world cup chances
As a world cup winner himself in 2003, the former England captain passed on his support and invaluable advice to the 26-women squad as well as watched them in training at the tournament pool game venue. Johnson said: “I’m really impressed with what I have seen. The players look in great shape and are clearly raring to go. “As a former player, a team manager and someone who has experienced a world cup before, I know what the squad are going through and what is still to come for them. There will be some very challenging times ahead but I am sure this squad will be the best prepared they can be to contest the world cup. I know that I and the rest of the England men’s squad will be eagerly following their progress throughout the tournament.” The WRWC kicks off on August 20th. A few weeks back you posted that all an international side needs is a good scrum and lineout and a good kicking game. Anything else is a bonus.
So whats your view on the two Tri Nations tests so far in New Zealand and do you think Graham Henry would agree with your philosophy. Or Robbie Deans for that matter?

As you can see that's a little different to what you wrote, and I stand by my opinion. I have no interest in derailing the point of the original post with mind-numbing confrontations with you. Anyway, again, do you think Graham Henry, whilst the Tri Nations Tests, were not `consecutive World Cup Knockout matches` would agree that the AB`s played with no flair. And that their victory was solely down to a big pack, good setpiece, defense, and a fly half who could control territory?

Also, by the way, whats being being favourites got to do with anything? Thats just a nonsense that journalists cough up when they cant think of anything else to ask a player. Im sure the girls couldnt give a stuff about that.
If it's close enough for you, then you know b.gger all, but then we already knew that. High pressure, world cup knockout matches aren't about 'flair', you don't win consecutive rounds at the world cup with 'flair'. At least that's not what history has shown us. That was my point. Stop trying to twist my words after you've been proved wrong for the 37th time.
History and indeed common sense has also told us that favourites have added pressure on their backs to perform on the big stage, whereas an underdog mentality can get teams far. Johnson and England went into 2003 as favourites for the world cup, along with perhaps NZ, and whilst they weren't at their best, they still found a way to win each game. The bottom line is I'm sure Johnson had some good insight to give the ladies, which is the point of the original post.
NZ played well in most facets of the game, showing amongst other things power, pace and precision behind the scrum. What's your point? Once again, my point was in regards to doing well at world cups, in particular, the latter stages. Keep digging yourself deeper, it's fun to watch.
