Proposed refurbishments have started on the Compton Street end. This work began on Monday (but like everything else that has Chesterfield written on somewhere it's always a little later). But this time work has started on time to my amazement!
Compton Street is to have 1000 seats installed to allow the ground to return to four sides. This will enable better atmosphere for home games and might also bring supporters back that we lost last season because Compton Street had to be shut off!
There is supposedly going to be around 1000 seats added which will bump the attendances up when big times come to Saltergate. For example when local rivals Mansfield visit the Rec more tickets will be wanted.
The proposed refurbishments however will not be ready in time for John Duncan's testimonial match at home to Manchester United. Fergie has also promised to bring a full international squad with him! Whether this will happen is another thing.
Tickets for the main stand have sold out but tickets are still available for the biggest friendly game of next season for the spireites when they take on Manchester United. Unfortunately I am on holiday when this match is due to take place, but don't miss out unless your like me and wish you had booked your holidays after you knew that the 'big boys' were coming to town!
The new compton street stand has been promised that it will be ready in time for the first or second home game next season against either Swindon Town or Port Vale.
Not forgetting the first game of the season for the spireites starts on the 10th of August and we are away to QPR. I will keep you up to date when these tickets go on sale, unless its a match where it's fee on entrance.
