Bingham - Outstanding

Much is being made of the fact that Morecamble hit the bar twice and missed a couple of sitters. All that is true but let's not lose sight of the fact that this was a vastly improved display on last season and we scored twice and they didn't.

Morecambe will be in the top half of the season there's no doubt abouht that on this display we should be comfortable.

There were some tremendous perfromances from man of the match Carl Magnay, Michael Woods and the speedy and intelligent Rakish Bingham who made one goal and scored the second.

The first came when everyone stood and admired a tremendous save from the Shrimpers keepr. Bingham was the only one to react as he gathered on the left and picked out Paynter near  the far post. The skipper didn't get a clean contact with his head but he was so close he couldn't really miss.

The second came after Bingham had two or three similar runs into the box and this time he drilled the ball under the diving goalie.

How far Pools can go depends on how well this team gels. Certainly the ingredients are there, but the defence was shaky at times, and you had to feel sorry for Scott Fenwick drafted into the 4-3-3 as the wide man on the left and he became increasingly frustrated.
