With five games to go we are only six points above the relegation zone. A home defeat by high flying Chesterfield would get certain body parts twitching ...
Any inquest on why we have lost the last four games to put ourselves in this position must wait.
What we need now is any kind of win and the possible return of both Andy Monkhouse and Marlon Harewood would certainly help.
The dip in form has coincided with Craig Hignett's return to Boro and the injuries to these two influential and experienced players.
However, Christian Burgess is doubtful after limping off at Portsmouth. The Boro loanee has, to be honest, looked a little tense in recent games but he is an undoubted talent and will be missed.
Fortunately, Sunderland loanee Scott Harrison, who hails from Middlesbrough [sorry, I know] came on at Fratton Park and did a very good job so will be an obvious replacement alongside the dependable Sam Collins.
