All the News and Statistics ahead of the visit of Port Vale to Prenton Park in Coca-Cola League One this Friday as Rovers look to get back to winning ways after a 2-2 draw at Yeovil last weekend and a 2-1 defeat to Walsall in their last home game which was also played on a Friday night.

For the second time in two weeks, it’s Friday Night Football at Prenton Park and this time Rovers will be hoping there is no repeat of the 2-1 defeat to Walsall a fortnight ago as a defeat is a result Rovers can ill afford.

 

Vale are level on points with Rovers going into this game but behind them due Tranmere’s superior goal difference that continues to be an advantage to them.  Rovers go into the game on the back of  a hard earned 2-2 draw from the long trip to Yeovil last Saturday, a result that helped neither team in their quests to pull clear once and for all of the relegation zone in League One.

 

The Valiants also go into the game on the back of a draw last Saturday following a 1-1 score-line at home to Huddersfield Town after being 1-0 ahead.  Vale have won just a third of their away games this season and have not won in their last two away trips.

 

At home, Rovers had been inconsistent, winning just two of their last six games, the last being a 4-1 win over Chesterfield after coming from 1-0 down.  Similar to Port Vale’s away form, Rovers have won less than a third of their home matches which is part of the reason that they still find themselves in a relegation fight at this stage of the season.

 

On the last day of 2005, Rovers won 2-0 at Vale Park thanks to an early goal from Danny Harrison and a late one from Chris Greenacre.  In last season’s meetings, Rovers were well beaten at Vale Park as Chris Birchall scored a brace either side of a Billy Paynter goal to go 3-0 up at half-time.

 

Rovers added a consolation through Mike Jackson but it was too little too late as the game ended 3-1.  In the return game at Prenton Park in April of 2005, Paul Hall scored the only goal of the game just before half-time to hand Rovers some revenge and three vital points.
