All the News and Stats ahead of Rovers’ visit to the County Ground to face Swindon Town in Coca-Cola League One on Saturday as Tranmere look to halt a run of two consecutive defeats in their last two matches. Swindon were thrashed 7-1 away at Nottingham Forest last Saturday.

As Rovers travel to Swindon, home of the famous Magic Roundabout, they will be looking for a victory to clear the nerves that are beginning to creep in with regard to the big ‘R Word’ – that is relegation.

 

A draw is the worst that Rovers can contemplate getting from this encounter as a victory for the hosts will see them move level with Tranmere on points although Rovers have a superior goal difference over all of the teams around them at the moment.

 

Following an eleven game unbeaten run in the league stretching back to the start of the Christmas period, Rovers have since slipped back into old habits by losing their last two matches by just a single goal with 1-0 defeats at the hands of Barnsley at Prenton Park and Oldham at Boundary Park.

 

One the one hand, Rovers have reason to be confident going into the game as Swindon were hammered 7-1 at Nottingham Forest last week and also shipped three goals at home to struggling Rotherham the week before.

 

However, the mere fact that Rovers are travelling to Swindon, virtually cancels out any confidence the fans may have that the side will win.  In their 24 previous visits to the County Ground, Rovers have won just twice and drawn seven times.  Add that to the fact that despite their league position, the Robins have won four and drawn one of their last six home matches and the task for Rovers is far from easy.

 

In the last meeting between the two sides earlier in the season, Tranmere triumphed 1-0 thanks to a second half goal from Chris Greenacre on August Bank Holiday Monday, a result that saw Rovers record their second home win of the season.

 

Last season, both games ended 2-1 in favour of the home team with Rovers going in front through Paul Hall at Prenton Park before David Duke equalised.  Hall struck again with 15 minutes left to hand Rovers the points.

 

At the County Ground later in the season, Rovers again took the lead through Ryan Taylor but two goals in two second half minutes from Smith handed the Robins the points.
