Amusingly some Arsenal fans have called for plan B, however this was plan B. Henry played deep because after Freddy went off he was expected to. Many moan that Arsenal only had one man up front, but fail to notice that so did Chelsea – and they were at home!!

After the match Mourinho said the goal was lucky but that they had "more chances" – more chances being 4 on target and 3 off target now if my adding up is correct that is 7 in total. Just imagine you spend £10 million a month every month and you have 7 chances at home (Come back George Graham, you are a man whose time has come). And the chance that finally went in accidentally came off a man who thought he was competing in a knobbly knee contest. Truly wonderful.

Meanwhile the away team had two chances on target, and six off target a total of 8. I make that one more than Cheatski had. That doesn’t include two perfectly good shouts for a penalty(The handball might have been accidental, but the granny shagger got a pen for far less at Old Trafford). Of course you may say, "you are just a nitpicker", and indeed I am, Mourinho meant they took their chances more effectively. Indeed they did, the final score doesn’t lie, that’s why this week in training Wenger will make Arsenal’s strikers practice knocking the ball past a top class goalie using only their kneecaps. Full volleys will not count, and will result in fines.

So how well did Arsenal play? Well at least three players rated higher than man of the match Lampard, and several others just as well. Hleb, and Toure were far better, but they are not English, and don’t need their morale boosting after being defeated 4-1 by Denmark. The Guardian gave the Arsenal first eleven a total of 64 points to Chelsea’s 61. They gave Lampard 6 out of 10, compared to Hleb’s 7, and Toure’s 8, Lehmann also got 7, one more than Cech.

Henry has come in for a lot of stick, true he didn’t have a great game, but he actually had three shots. One was wide, one straight at Cech, and the other forced Cech to concede a corner. Now that was probably as many, if not more shots than any Chelsea striker. However we all would have liked to see him take his chances more effectively – and have a few more. Is the Captain’s role making him go deep, or affecting his play? Or was it the fact that Freddy was injured and replaced by van Persie. That is something Wenger can sort out quickly.

Apparently the Gunners ability to score goals has dried up, they have scored only two in the EPL so far, unlike Chelsea who have scored errr.. two in the EPL so far. Worth every penny of those petro dollars. Yet Arsenal scored most goals in the EPL last year – is it the case that we have suddenly run out of goal scorers overnight? For all their millions Chelsea scored less than us. Lets not be fickle, one more striker would be useful, but I suspect Arsene will manage

It is probably too much to expect TV pundits to have a sense of proportion, the Guardian was far more analytical this morning, but Arsenal fans should not get sucked in by the hype.

As for all this Chelsea have beat us twice in 15 days nonsence, the Community Shield counts for nothing, we have won it several times under Wenger, and failed to win the league the following season. Wenger did not play his best team in that game. He experimented with substitutions. Even if we had won or drawn yesterday, the latter being the most likely, we would not be a cert for the league. Chelsea has far more depth and money than Arsenal. But nonetheless Arsenal will be a serious competitor.

Arsenal did not play badly against Chelsea, our midfield dominated the game, we made more chances than most other team have done at the Bridge, unfortunately we didn’t take them. We made a serious defensive error, they made none, leastways not any the referee saw. Hleb played very well, Lehmann had a blinder. Senderos will learn. We will play worse and fare better in the future.

If Arsenal players ignore all the hype, and the midfield plays as well as it did yesterday, most teams are in for a hiding.
