The New York Yankees have announced they are to expand the protective netting in time for the opening day and it will extend down both foul lines.

The netting will be nine feet high above both dugouts and will reach eight feet high as it approaches both foul poles. The netting is being extended due to a young fan being injured by a Todd Frazier line drive. The game was delayed four minutes as the girl was taken from the stands and sent to hospital for treatment.

Major League Baseball made the recommendation to increase the size of the netting prior to the 2016 season but only nine teams acting upon the guideline.  When the Yankees made the announcement Todd Frazier, now a free agent, was delighted.

“Thank God,” Frazier said. “Not only here, but every team should have it. It’s a good step forward for the Yankees.”
