The Mets are aiming to become number one in New York as they bring their farm teams into the state and rebrand them under the Mets moniker.

Back in October the New York Mets purchased the Triple-A Syracuse Chiefs and from 2019 the minor league team will play as the Syracuse Mets, according to New York's Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo made the announcement at his New York State of the State address at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany with Mets' COO Jeff Wilpon, general manager Sandy Alderson, new manager Mickey Callaway, outfielder Brandon Nimmo and infielder T.J. Rivera all in attendance.

The Sycracuse Chiefs general manager Jason Smorol remained tightlipped over the arrangement however.

"We'll have more to say about it later," Smorol told syracuse.com, "I don't think right now is the time to delve into that. When we're ready to make the official announcement, we'll make the official announcement.''

The Mets' current Triple-A affiliate is the Las Vegas 51s but this agreement will end upon conclusion of the 2018 season. The Syracuse Chiefs are currently the Triple-A International League affiliates of the Washington Nationals. The plan for the Mets is to bring their farm teams closer to New York to better monitor the progress of their prospects. Starting in 2019 they will have three affiliates in the state of New York.
