At 6’ and 18½ stone Anderson physically fits the bill as a front row forward and at 30 years old has experience. Originally from Australia, he played for the national side up to Barbarians level and was called up to Queensland’s Super 12 squad. One of his early experiences with British rugby was in 2001 when he played for Australian Universities against Australian Combined Services in a curtain raiser before the Lions match against ACT Brumbies.
Anderson has not yet played in this season’s Celtic League, instead being fielded by Currie in the Scottish League, but did score a try for Edinburgh against Munster in a development match recently, as well as against Glasgow in a pre-season friendly, and was on the bench when the Gunners came to Kingston Park in the Heineken Cup last December.
As far as I can tell from the club’s supporters’ website, Anderson actually only started one game for Edinburgh last season, at Ulster in the Celtic League, and therefore many fans will be sceptical as to the true standard we have signed. However, Anderson is able to play hooker as well as loosehead and as such his versatility should be an advantage.
