Falcons Facing Sarries - 14/09/03

New captain
By Mally (13/09/03) September 13 2003
In their first match of the 2003 - 2004 season Newcastle Falcons will take on Saracens. It was their dramatic, hard fought home win over Saracens on May 4th which secured Newcastle's place in the Premiership last season.

With last season's captain, Jonny Wilkinson, away on England duty, Mark Andrews has been named as team captain for the season. An influential figure both on and off the pitch Mark Andrews is a superb choice for the captaincy. It was the arrival of Mark Andrews which heralded the up turn in Falcons fortunes last season.

The side has also been boosted by the inclusion of Dave Walder and Jamie Noon, Mr Woodward may prefer to take Catt and Abbott to the World Cup, but Dave and Jamie are world class players and Newcastle are far far stronger for having them at home. Thanks Clive!

James Grindal's recovery from a thumb injury (!!) rounds out the Falcons side to face Saracens on Sunday.

Do you think the coaching team of Alan Tait and Paul Moriarty should be replaced?
