Report: Town 0-1 Portsmouth

Ipswich Town slipped out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle yesterday, losing 1-0 to Premiership side Portsmouth.

Despite Town dominating the possession Portsmouth left Portman road with their name in the hat for the draw for the fourth round of the cup on Monday.

Gavin Williams fired wide with most of the goal to aim at and that bit of bad luck proved costly as soon after Portsmouth had taken the lead, Dario Silva heading in Matt Taylor’s cross.

Lua Lua nearly doubled the visitors leads soon after when he fired just wide of the post after using his skill to leave Naylor in knots, Taylor also came close to extending Portsmouth lead before the half time break.

Ten minutes into the second half Danny Haynes was joined up front by Richard Naylor with Sito replacing Magilton and slotting into the defence.

Sadly despite Naylor adding physical presence up-front Town failed to score, but did come agonisingly close with De Vos hitting the post, Garvan had his follow up cleared off the line.
