Report: Town 3-1 PAFC

Town got their first win in six games in some style with a 3-1 win over a Plymouth side who had lost just once under Tony Pulis before today.

Town were the better side throughout the game and made a promising start in the final third of the pitch, Matt Richards tested Romain Larrieu from distance and the Frenchman didn’t look too comfortable in dealing with it.

Plymouth had a couple of efforts on goal, Tony Capaldi sent a free kick over the bar before Micky Evans and Paul Wotton forced Price into a save from headers before Town took the lead.

Kevin Horlock’s close range effort was beaten round the post by Larrieu for a corner, Darren Currie’s kick was only cleared as far as Jay McEveley who volleyed home from 18-yards to score his first goal for Town since joining on-loan from Blackburn.

Town had a second goal before half time when another Currie Corner was flicked on by Jason De Vos and Jimmy Juan netted his second of the campaign with a diving header to make it 2-0 with just over half an hour gone.

Plymouth tried to strike back before the half time break but the best they could manage was a speculative shot from Buzsaky which didn’t trouble Price in the Town goal.

Although Buzsaky didn’t trouble Price towards the end of the first half he did find the back of the net five minutes into the second half, Buzsaky curled a free kick into the top left corner.

Five minutes later Town’s two goal lead was restored when Nicky Forster was brought down by Larrieu in the Plymouth box, the referee awarded Town a penalty which Matt Richards stepped up to take and he converted it with the ‘keeper going the wrong way to make it 3-1

The visitors didn’t go down with out a fight and did try for another goal but just couldn’t find the target, Buzsaky fired over from 35-yards while David Norris fired a weak effort with just over 10 minutes to go.

Town move one place up the table but are now just 2 points outside the play-off zone, 7 above the drop zone and more importantly four above Norwich.
