Town slumped to another away defeat last night, losing three nil at Turf Moor against a struggling Burnley side.

Burnley started slightly the better side but both sides looked tidy in the opening 15 minutes or so, Ade Akinbiyi was the first to have a go at breaking the deadlock, but his 20 yard effort was easily held by Price in the Town goal. Sam Parkin went close for Town soon after, his effort from 18 yards going wide of the upright.

 

Akinbiyi tried his luck again after being set free by Keith Lowe but again the forward could only find the hands of Lewis Price.

 

The home side took the lead after 33 minutes when Akinbiyi set up James O’Connor whose shot was deflected past Price to make it 1-0.

 

Graham Branch came closest to changing the scoreline before the end of the first half but his half effort was blocked by De Vos.

 

The Clarets continued to do most of the pushing in the second half, John Spicer and Akinbiyi both went close to doubling their lead, both firing wide.  

 

Town made two changes just past the hour mark, Danny Haynes and Jaime Peters coming on for Dean Bowditch and Jim Magilton but still Town couldn’t threaten the home goal, a long range effort from Owen Garvan was the best they could offer.

 

Burnley added two more to the score line before the full time whistle, Richard Naylor fouled Branch and from the resulting free kick Burnley made it 2-0, Micah Hyde passed the ball to Garreth O’Connor who fired the ball into the bottom corner.

 

Burnley rounded off the scoring with three minutes to go, Chris McCann headed in Garreth O’Connor’s corner to make it 3-0.
