Town made it two home wins on the Spin today when the saw off Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 at Portman Road earlier today.

A goal each from Richard Naylor and Ian Westlake gave Town a two goal lead before Lee Peacock got one back for the visitors later on.

 

Town took the lead with their first real chance on seven minutes when Wednesday failed to clear a Darren Currie corner which went all the way to Jim Magilton who played the ball back into the box where Richard Naylor rose above the rest of the Owls defence to head home.

 

O’Brien fired wide for the visitors on 20 minutes and Fabian Wilnis, playing in the centre of defence fired over the bar for Town from another Currie Corner.

 

Currie himself came close to doubling Town’s lead just before the break when he sent an effort just wide of the upright.

 

The Owls woke up after the half time break and tested debutant goalkeeper Shane Supple on a number of occasions, something they failed to do in the first half, Chris Eagles coming closest to beating the youngster on 57 minutes when he fired across the face of goal.

 

Paul Sturrock made changes to his side with half an hour to go with Adam Proudlock, Lee Peacock coming on along with former Town defender Drissa Diallo, whose name was met with boos from some sections of the crowd but those boos were impossible to hear once he got onto the pitch as the vast majority of the crowd applauded his arrival.    

 

Proudlock nearly made an immediate impact after getting on the end of O’Brien’s delivery but he couldn’t keep his effort on target and headed over the bar. Chris Brunt tried his luck from the edge of the area and failed to find the net.

 

Ian Westlake made it 2-0 after 70 minutes when he fired home from the edge of the box following good build up play from Darren Currie and Sito Castro.

 

Despite being two goals down Wednesday made a fight of it and got a goal back with 10 minutes left to play when Peacock headed home Whelan’s corner but Wednesday could not find another goal and Town got all three points.
