With a new pitch and the Christmas season now officially underway I was hoping that Ipswich would give us an early present.
The Town line up to face Leeds at home today was Price, Bruce, Naylor, De Vos, Harding, Roberts, Garvan, Legwinski, Williams, Macken and Lee. On the Town bench was Supple, Richards, Walton, Peters and Haynes.
Before the match even starts I have got up and walked out. I come back around 7 minutes to see De Vos clearing the ball from his defensive area.
On 9 minutes Town are showing strong signs of a good attack before Leeds break and Tresor Kandol slips the ball in the net, but the whistle has already been blown as he was offside.
I’m still not really watching the match but not much seems to be happening anyway.
In the 16th minute Bruce is defending against Ex-tractor boy Westlake and clears the ball for a Leeds throw. Eddie Lewis brings the ball back into play before Jonathon Douglas has an uncontrollable flying foot in the Town box.
Naylor wins the ball from a brilliant challenge on 18 minutes and sends the ball up field but Lee is offside. You know what would go nicely now, some cheese cake.
Eddie Lewis meets Jon Macken birdie style on 20 minutes but referee Mr. Keith Stroud can’t see a problem with it.
21 minutes gone Harding was working well until he got into a strop and nearly got his handbag out, but he realized that he might break his hair brush and put it away again, but still he receives a yellow.
On the 23rd minute there are lots of push’s and shove’s but Town keep possession, Macken runs the ball into the box but Legwinski shoots straight into the arms of the Leeds keeper. Wow that one run from Macken showed me more from him than I have seen in the last few months put together.
On 25 minutes it looks like true blue Naylor has won back his rightful place.
In the 27th minute Tresor Kandol slam dunks Bruce then in the 28th minute Garvan looks to be having problems, Westlake and Moore are causing problems in the Towns defence.
On the half hour a Leeds corner is taken by Kevin Nicholls, and he is the only one to touch the ball before it goes out of play again.
Leeds then have a free kick 2 minutes later, I don’t know why as I was doing my hair, the free kick was pretty much an action replay of the previous corner.
The battle was on between Bruce and Heath on 33 minutes, Bruce wins when play is stopped for a Town free kick.
Onto 35 minutes and Leeds are attacking, Price collects the ball but then it slips from his hands, I know how you feel Price, I had exactly the same problem in the bath yesterday with the soap.
Although Kandol is offside on 38 minutes it is not given and all that is left to do is beat Town keeper, the task proves mission impossible as he shoots wide.
On 41 minutes we talk about we talk about the glory days of Chelsea before the Roman invaded and took over. Blinkin’ Romans!
1 minute is added to the end of the first half during which Town snatch the lead, all I know is I was pre-occupied with the world stupidest laws then the next thing I know Gavin Williams have scored, the crowd go wild, start doing the gorilla dance, Town are 1-0 up and it’s half time.
The second half gets underway in front of 23,661 fans with De Vos making a very silly mistake but Naylor recovers.
On 47 minutes Leeds keeper Graham Stack looks like he has been tangoed then Legwinski gives away a free kick to the left of the Town box.
Harding lets a good ball slide in the 49th minute and the Town defence are not defending- a rare occurrence.
In the 52nd minute Roberts is battling well before he shoots over Stack’s goal and Kandol is stripping.
On 54 minutes we are left making noises from the grudge and talking about cricket, I don’t understand how an umpire can keep a straight face when a bunch of Aussies are jumping around in front of him screaming.
On 55 minutes Garvan does well to defend a free kick taken by Nicholls and Macken continues to impress a minute later playing the ball wide for Harding, Harding wins a corner which Naylor heads over.
Onto 60 minutes Haynes replaces Williams then Leeds defending is solid with a ball in from Harding before Sebastian Carole replaces Shaun Derry for Leeds.
Haynes makes a good run on 62 minutes and wins a corner, the corner is pretty rubbish and Hayden Foxe’s hair is the same colour as their goalkeeper kit.
The Leeds keeper Stack is down quickly to stop a good effort from Lee.
Nicholls is a stress head in the 65th minute then on 67 Haynes is penalized for nothing.
Leeds let a golden opportunity fly by on 68 minutes after a battle in the Town box leaves Price on the floor but Kandol heads wide.
Alan Lee should be in trouble on 70 minutes after the play got away from Foxe and himself, Lee saw it appropriate to Elbow Foxe in the back of the head, he was lucky to only see a yellow.
On 72 minutes Town have lost all control and show signs of panic, but that could be from the influence of the impatient Town fans.
Then on 73 minutes Roberts falls over way too easy looking for a free kick, he doesn’t get one and I think he is a prat for risking it, if he had stayed on his feet he could have been through on goal. On 75 minutes David Healy replaces Ian Moore and Town are searching for their next goal pressing the Leeds defence.
In the 78th minute Carole has a go at goal but it is no trouble for Price. Naylor is down and Town have a free kick, Kandol is warned then Town win a second free kick for Eddie Lewis on Haynes and Lee is doing his theatrics again.
Price makes a good save from Carole’s attack and a corner creates nothing for Leeds.
Lee is falling over again a minute later and I feel that people with afros are very inconsiderate.
Lee is still rolling around and Nicholls is booked.
On 83 minutes Naylor defends well then all hell breaks loose and Nicholls receives a special Christmas card from the ref for retaliation, Leeds are down to 10 men and also have Foxe booked.
On 85 minutes Lee is replaced by Walton who comes on and when he joins play 2 minutes later he is an idiot and gives Leeds a great opportunity, but they shoot over so no real harm done by the sexy Simon.
Geoff Horsfield replaces Eddie Lewis and Leeds seem to have found determination, but with Price on top form today they won’t get through.
On 89 minutes Legwinski is on the floor and everyone is jumping around and yelling.
4 minutes injury time is added.
Naylor is booked for a foul on Kandol and I lose funky sock competition again, I obviously need more socks for Christmas.
Healy takes out Roberts who was on a goal scoring run and gets a yellow, Walton gives the free kick to Stack.
Call the cleaners, give them a day off, we kept a clean sheet!
