PMS: Wednesday
By Sadie November 12 2006
Sadie (Shady Blue Lady) gives Singing The Blues her own unique look at Town’s game against Sheffield Wednesday yesterday.

After last weeks defeat at Burnley the Tractor Boys were back in front of home fans looking for 3 points before we face our rivals next Sunday.

Today’s squad saw Supple in goal, the return of 'Bad Fab' in defence with Bruce, De Vos and Harding, Noble was to appear in his last match of his loan spell at Town and with him in Midfield was Roberts, Legwinski and Richards with Haynes and Lee partnering attack. Price returns to the Subs bench after his short injury spell with Naylor, Currie, Peters and Macken.

Haynes and Noble Kick off today’s match against Sheffield Wednesday and oh my Gawd its freezing.

Both lots of fans starting in fine voice with an impressive set of Wednesday fans making today’s trip.

On 4 minutes it's obvious who has started this game on top when John Hills breaks past both Roberts and Bruce before Wilnis intercepts.

The first free kick of the match goes to Wednesday when Bruce decides to greet our visitors with a knee in the back. Supple is forced to dive to save the kick.

A corner is given to the Owls when the ball finds its way through easily then De Vos manages to head the ball out. Legwinski blocks the corner but Wednesday win another.

On 8 minutes Lee Bullen feels the need to climb over Haynes but apparently it's legit.

Town have a free kick in the 9th minute after Roberts is taken down, Wilnis takes the kick which eventually goes out for a Town corner, the delivery is poor and the Owls win the ball back, they glide up the pitch with ease before Marcus Tudgay finishes by sliding the ball into Supple’s net, the Tractor Boys are a goal behind.

Wilnis produces a good tackle on Chris Brunt in the 13th minute then passes the ball to Haynes on the right, Brunt not happy takes him out. Supple takes the free kick but it comes straight back up with Sheffield Wednesday.

Onto the 20th minute Haynes is down for treatment then in the 22nd minute Bruce receives an arm in the face from Tudgay Supple takes the free kick, the ball ends up with Haynes on the right but his delivery is too hard.

Macken replaces Haynes in the 23rd minute then Harding gives away a stupid free kick in the 25th minute, the kick comes into the Town box, as it comes past Tudgay  he falls over then Madjid Bougherra blasts it over.

In the 28th minute the ball is played on for Roberts who shoots wide of goal then in the 29th minute Wade Small is booked for a late tackle on Harding.

In the 31st minute the Owls attack is cut short when Tudgay is caught offside then play reaches the other end and Richards plays the ball for Lee, but the ball rolls under Lee's foot and falls wide of the goal.

Roberts has a go at goal, unfortunately yelling at it will get us no where, and we actually have to shoot!

Sheffield Wednesday are doing well and so are their fans, taking full advantage of Towns lacking spirit.

In the 36th minute Town get play into the Owls box but it rolls past 3 boys in blue before Richards sends the ball into orbit.

The Tractor Boys look ever so slightly brighter in the 37th minute, oh, no, maybe not, it was just the sun poking through the clouds for a moment.

On 40 minutes I sing Lionel Ritchie's 'Hello' which I feel is rather appropriate if you change the words a little, 'Hello, is there anybody there?' Then I'm blowing Bubbles and I know a song that will get on your nerves.

On 42 minutes a late challenge on Harding leaves him on the floor needing treatment, on 44 minutes he is back up and nothing else really happens in the first half.

Kenny Lunt and Deon Burton restart the match in front of a crowd of 21,830.

In the 46th minute there is lots of rubbish on the pitch, and they are all wearing blue shirts, ha only kidding, the pitch is in a terrible state.

The game seems more encouraging for town in the 49th minute when a free kick is given in centre midfield for a Deon Burton handball, the ball finds Macken in the box who turns and hits the side netting.

Good work by Roberts in the 51st minute is let down by a poor delivery, then Lee's movement is obstructed on the edge of the Wednesday box but nothing given.

I look up from my notes to see Alan Lee standing over Kenny Lunt but apparently nothing happened according to my sources, still the free kick is given to the Owls, Le is then booked as he gets past Bullen and Bullen falls down like a baby beginning to learn to walk.

A similar incident sees Bruce on the receiving end in the 56th minute but this time according to Referee Mr. Keith Stroud it's not a foul.

On 58 minutes I go into a daydream of pretty things then I'm brought back in the 59th minute when Supple pulls off a quick save but the Wednesday player was offside anyway, Meanwhile Noble is down needing treatment.

On 60 minutes I come up with a plan, then on 63 minutes we say goodbye to Noble who is replaced by Currie, Currie wins town a corner, the corner is taken by Richards, Currie chases on and sends a good ball into the box but the Wednesday keeper Mark Crossley reaches the ball before Legwinski.

Onto 66 minutes I'm bedazzled by Yoan Folly's hair, Currie and Harding are playing well together but Town just can't seem to get anything to happen in the box.

Town have a free kick on 70 minutes, it's a good ball from Richards but no one responds and it falls to the Wednesday number one.

Chris Brunt is replaced by Burton O'Brien in the 71st minute and Wilnis is defending well in the 73rd.

Lee and Macken are getting in each others way in the 74th minute which just proves the Tractor boys haven’t quite yet mastered the art of communication.

Town attack on 78 minutes with Richards finding Lee who passes onto Currie, Harding cannot control the final ball and it ends up as a goal kick.

Glenn Whelan replaces Wade Small on 80 minutes and joins the game for a corner to the visitors, the ball comes in and Town stand still, Madjid Bougherra doubles the Owls lead.

Supple's reflexes are tested on 82 minutes from a Sheffield Wednesday free kick, then in the 83rd minute Naylor comes on to join attack with Harding making way.

The closest Town came to netting a goal came in the 85th minute when Lee Bullen heads at his own post.

Currie and Naylor are getting stuck in and have really brought some fighting spirit to the pitch and in the 87th minute Currie is booked for a foul on Frankie Simek.

Steven MacLean replaces Deon Burton on 88 minutes and I can't wait for the final whistle.

4 minutes injury time was added during which Town had the best of the chances but were never a real threat.

If we play like that next week we will get slaughtered but as we all know, all rules are thrown out for derby games.

By the way I won funky sock competition which had to be done through phone calls after the match, as in all the frustration we forgot (Thank you giraffe socks, you never let me down)
