Newcastle United Youths saw off Hartlepool Youths 4-0 in Krul’s first appearance in a black and white shirt.
The friendly was played behind closed doors, and was also split into three 30-minute sections and both teams made a series of substitutions.
Krul managed to keep a clean sheet in his first game of the club, with marc Walton getting the Magpies off the mark by lobbing Davidson after beating the defender, Alex White.
After the first break, a good little move by the reserves saw Walton pick up a second. Liam Atkin squared the ball to Walton, who had his back to goal. Walton laid it off to Scott Marshall, turned, and headed Marshall’s return ball home to give the Magpies a 2-0 lead.
Walton volleyed over and Carroll shot wide before Walton had another chance at a hat-trick which he pulled wide.
Carroll got the third after 70 minutes by lobbing Davidson after a good long ball and the 4th came in the last minute when Cavener heading in a corner.
Glenn Roeder, the Academy Manager said:
"As a first work-out of the season, it gets 10 out of 10.
"I couldn't have asked for better - four goals and a clean sheet. Nothing disappointed me at all, I couldn't pick fault with them at all.
"That was a hell of a start for us - they have set their benchmark and set their standards and won't won't want to drop below that in the months to come.
"I wanted to see everybody I could play. We've had practice matches but it was black and white shirts instead of bibs in this game and they have shown what that means to them.
"They thoroughly deserved the 4-0 victory. In the last 30 minutes it was our youngest line-up and Hartlepool's most experienced line-up, but we got two more goals in that period.
"There's no such thing as a friendly. the lads always want to win and the very good habits they have shown me in training, they also showed me in this game."
