Given answers some Questions!
By Matthew Jones January 19 2003
As you may remember, Tyne Talk e-mailed a few questions to Shay Given. Well, he has now replied and has some interesting answers. Most are short and sweet so it shouldn't take you long to look. GO ON! What's stopping you? We worked hard to get it, so click the text and go and read his interview :)
Given Says:
"Hi, Sorry it took a while. Been a bit busy, and I wanted to wait until after the Barcalona game."

So far this season how pleased are you with your personal peformances?

Pleased enough. Always look at ways of improving. Still conceeded too many goals. But we defend as a team. There's always room for improvement...you can always improve your game...

What did you think of the Barcelona match, did we deserve anything?

They played well. They're a quality team. They passed the ball well. They had the cushion of the 3:1, they could have stepped it up if they wanted it to but I don't think we deserved to get more...

What would be success for Newvcastle United this season?

Would have been nice to have won the FA Cup but we can't do that now, but to get the club back into the Champions League would be good, it brings in money which can in turn strengthen the squad.

Any match so far this season which has been a personal favourite?

Any one which I kept a clean sheet in. The Feeynoord because of the importance of getting into the last 16 in Europe...great for everybody.

Realisticly, what are Newcastle's chances in the Champions League still?

We'd made it difficult for ourselves again, but we'll go out fighting as the man says...if we get the results against Leverkusen, who knows.

When the transfter window opens after New Year, what position would you like to see strengthened and why?

I'll leave that up to the Manager, but hopefully we can bring in a couple of quality players...

Which youngster (19 and under) has the best prospects for the future?

Harsh question for me to answer, but I'd rather not single anybody out, it would be unfair to the others...
