By Tyne-Talk
January 15 2013

Newcastle United have lodged a bid for Nancy defender Massadio Haidara, however the 20 year old has said that he would prefer to go to Roma rather than Newcastle and Serie A rather than the Premier League. It is reported that Newcastle have placed a £2million offer on the table, but as we all know, that means nothing until a contract is signed.

Haidara, who signed a 3 year contract with AS Nancy in 2011 has started 16 games this season  after

He told TMW;

"I prefer Roma to Newcastle, as I prefer Serie A.

I'd love to play in Italy, though Newcastle are also a good team.

I know that my agent has spoken to both clubs, we'll see what happens. As far as I am concerned, I'd love to play in Italy."

Why buy players for positions that are already filled?
Dumb.

Because it won't be tomorrow if rumours that we will allow Coloccini to terminate his contract tomorrow are true.(Sm58)

A young prospect to provide competition at left back isn't a bad thing, though I agree the backroom ought to focus on the holes in the first team!

If we can bring him in quickly, and it doesnt effect more pressing targets, then its a smart move.

We have lacked cover in this position for years.
Santon can also cover at RB.
He is young so might not expect to play straight away.
January move lets him bed in for a few months, like it took Santon.
Rumours out there are that AC want Santon and, like it or not, it would be a draw for the lad. Would be worse if he left with no one to step in. Saying that, they would have to double our money for him and I would like to get him tied down to a better deal.

Should be joining today if there is no problems, another one in the door please, then only a striker and I'd be relitivly pleased with the signings of: Debuchy, Mbiwa, Heidara and a striker/winger.

Has anything been confirmed on this signing yet ? It seems to have went quiet with the other signings made and I really would like to see this over the line as I think he could go onto become a very good player.
