Redknapp Tells The World Of Ba Release Clause

Harry Redknapp appears to be playing games after suggesting to the media (and therefore every other club going) that in-form striker Demba Ba has a release clause in his contract. Ba who signed on a free from West Ham Utd and has scored 15 goals for Newcastle, is now on his way to The African Cup of Nations, whilst Pardew will be furious with Redknapps comments.
The Spurs manager said;
"Demba Ba's done great, hasn't he, everybody's looking at him suddenly. Anybody could have had him a year ago. Full credit to Alan Pardew, he took him.
He's done a fantastic job. What a strike-rate he's got. He's probably the most in-form striker anywhere at the moment.
They say there's a release clause in his contract, that's what we all hear. He's certainly done well and it will be interesting to see what happens there, but at the moment he's doing great things for Newcastle."
He added;
"He's off to play in the African Cup of Nations now so he's going to be away for a month or so, so that’s a difficult one.
At the moment Newcastle have got him and I’m sure Alan wants to keep him. He'd be disappointed if he had to lose him. He would be difficult to replace.”
The club or Alan Pardew are yet to respond to the comments.

This really annoys me. Whether he has the clause of not, this is bang out of order from Harry and he should know better.

I just hope floppy chops is wrong. Why would we put a release clause in the contract of a player who has such injury risk that others won't take him on a free after he scored-what, 8?-for West Ham in a few months?
This underhanded behavior from him doesn't surprise me at all; it was fun to snicker when he complained about Chelsea & Modric. Pot, kettle and black are words that come to mind.

What concerns me is how he knows about this release clause if it exists ! Is ba's agent being shady and touting him to bigger clubs for next season ? This is what I believe is happening and as sad as it is it doesn't really suprise me
daily mail reporting that its a 10million release clause, at that price he's gone this month if its true!
He wont go and I tell you why, if this 10million is true and thats a big if. No club will pay it, because of the supposed issue with his knee. We got him on a free, thus his insurance will be much lower than other insured players, we havent really taken much of a gamble with him, however had we payed 10m we would not be able to insure him for anyhting like that amount with the issues.
Personally I would report Redknapp, I really hate him, and I think he is way over rated, everywhere he goes he spends fortunes then look at the state he left West Ham, Southampton and Portsmouth in. Hopefully the tax man will get him, as for calls for England what a load of crap.

Your analysis is right on, Andrew. To me, that means that we need fear only profligate spenders with a reason to gamble. Liverpool is a possibility, but I doubt it. Their ownership will wait to see returns on the last round of investment. It's not like their season is going terribly, and they're only in need until Suarez comes back not long after Ba. City are set at forward. Chelsea is a possibility but again, they're pretty much good at that position. Arsenal have signed Henry. Spurs don't seem to need him. I think we're safe until the summer, by which time he'll likely be offered an improved long-term deal.
a release clause is pointless if the player does not want to move, its usually used as a get out clause for a club thats relegated?

Agreed. Also, don't FA rules state you can't play for more than two clubs in a calendar year? That would make buying Ba pointless until the summer anyway and gives us a window to give him an improved contract-without a clause.

I too hope that old melted-candle face gets sent down for tax evasion. As far as I can tell, the only occasions when he has ever actually achieved anything in football management is when there have been large brown envelopes stuffed with cash involved (as seen in that BBC documentary a few years back). And it beggars beleif that he can make comments like this, after the way he went on about Chelsea's pursuit of Modric.
Mind you, this stuff about Ba's release clause is worrying. You do have to wonder where the story has come from, and whether it is true. I suppose that the agent has to be the prime suspect, as he would know about the existence of such a clause, and is the person most likely to gain financially if Ba is sold on.

The agent's definitely the source. I'm sure he's informed every top flight manager in England-droopy is just the one who's going on and on about it.
I gotta hope the understanding is that if he proved himself, we'd get a shot at giving him an improved contract.
