Newcastle United host Birmingham City this weekend on the back of two draws, three defeats and one win from their last six, whilst Birmingham travel on the back of two draws, two wins and two defeats from their last six.
Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew is without, Alan Smith (ankle), Stephen Ireland (ankle), Dan Gosling (foot), Leon Best (ankle), James Perch (knee), Danny Guthrie (foot) and Hatem Ben Arfa (broken leg) after he suffered a set back in training. He is also without Mike Williamson who broke his arm in a training ground incident earlier this week.
Alex McLeish goes into the game hoping for his 50th win as manager but is without leading goal-scorer Craig Gardener who starts a 2 match ban, as well as Obafemi Martins (groin), Maik Taylor (shoulder), James McFadden (knee), |Enric Valles (ankle) and Scott Dann (hamstring).
Nickola Zigic was expected to return from a hip injury but will once again miss out for the Blues.
Fact: Newcastle United are unbeaten in the last 8 league games against Birmingham.
Fact: Only Manchester United boast a better goal scoring record at home than Newcastle United this season.

1-0 Newcastle! Ameobi with the penalty...Ridgewell is sent off as well...
Magpies goal: Carnage inside the Blues box and they pay a heavy double price for it in the end. Fabricio Coloccini's header is going goalwards when Liam Ridgewell goes up to clear and the ball hits his arm - Kevin Nolan tries to pounce, but before he can get his head on to the ball Ridgewell has cleared with his arm again. He is sent off, and Shola Ameobi steps up to slot the penalty past Ben Foster.

still need 2 strikers, 2 midfielders and a couple of full backs..
We need to have someone better than Ranger to bring on as sub though.
Birmingham were very poor even though they are chasing the points more than us. Saying that some of our players looked like they were getting ready for their hols already. Jose was very much in this mode and his head seems elsewhere. He did bang in a couple of great balls but didnt look interested.
Nolan got motm but Barton or Colo was for me.
Also, Shola Ameobi has to be considered one of the best penalty takers ever in the English game. I believe that he has never missed a competitive penalty in his over 300 games for Newcastle. Every single one is right inside the post with good power. Even when the keeper guesses right, he's managed to get it in the back of the net.
Foster was immense in the first half. Nolan and Lovenkrands both could have had goals. But Taylor's header was fantastic.
