1. Clayton Ince

1. Clayton Ince

Clayton Ince joined Walsall on a free transfer from Coventry City in July 2005 following an impressive trial at Bescot Stadium. He signed to replace Andy Oakes and become Walsall’s number 1 ‘keeper and help The Saddlers achieve an instant return back to League 1 following relegation in 2005/06.

In the summer 2006, the 34 year-old represented Trinidad and Tobago in the 2006 World Cup in Germany as an unused substitute and was not able to add to his 63 caps that he already has to his name, he was extremely disappointed having lost out on being Trinidad and Tobago’s number 1 ‘keeper.  To resolve this problem he decided to drop down a couple of divisions to join The Saddlers for some much needed first-team football, which he wasn’t getting at his current club Coventry City.

The Trinidad and Tobago international first arrived into the English game in September 1999 when Crewe Alexandra signed him from Delta Force.  He went on to make 137 appearances in all competitions for Dario Gardi’s side, whilst also having a loan spell at Scottish side Dundee in 2000.  In the summer 2005 he left Crewe Alexandra and joined Coventry City where he made four starts in the whole of the 2005/06 season.
