Reaction to the Darlington game

It's hardly a shock to see Lincoln lose a 2 goal lead these days, especially after dominating most of the match. Even Keith Alexander realised that we should have been 4 or 5 up at half time but just like most games recently, the fact we didn't win was down to the defence.


How ironic that I named the review of 2005, "A complete lack of surprise" because that's exactly what the final game of the year was. How many times are we going to take a lead and give it away, especially 2 goal leads. It's a very odd thing with the Imps, we can comfortably hold on to a 1 goal lead but as soon as we get a 2 goal lead, we panic.

The most disappointing aspect of this match was for the first 30 or so minutes, we played really decent football and played Darlington off the park, it was a joy to watch but then, as soon as we're 2-0 up, it's back to the hoofing tactic and Darlington get back into the game. However, there are many positives from the game including the continuing improvement of Luke Foster and an excellent first start for Jeff Hughes, who was arguably the best player on the pitch.

Overall, it could have been a lot worse due to Darlington's last minute chance but the fact the Imps should have been at least 4 or 5 up by the time they scored 1 says it all.

Our defence is so frustrating but what makes it worse, is that everyone blames our strikers for not scoring enough. Here's a stat for you.

September 27th - 2-0 win over Stockport, since then we've played 17 games and whereas we've failed to score in 3 of them, our defence has only kept 2 clean sheets, we'd easily be in the playoffs if the defence started doing it's job properly.
