Don't believe the hype

Lincoln City face a local derby against Boston on boxing day, however, don't believe all the hype coming from York Street. The men from 34 miles down the road have said they're on a fantastic run and are playing brilliantly, however, a closer examination reveals just 3 wins in their last 12 games

God old local derbies, you've got to love them, especially considering that we've only had 2 so far this season and it's a case of two teams seemingly reversing their recent form. City had only won 1 in 12 before the home game against Chester a few weeks, now 2 wins later and their on good form, whereas Boston have record just 2 defeats in 16, however, that includes just 1 win in their last 6.

City will be forced to make changes due to the suspensions of Dean Keates and Scott Kerr. Mayo wil more than likely push up into midfielder and will most probably partner Cryan and Brown in the midfielder. Strikers will now be on their toes following the return of Simon Yeo and they have 3 games to prove why they should keep their place in the squad, should be interesting.

It says it all about Boston that they've gone on a run of just 2 defeats in 16 league games and are just 1 point ahead of an Imps side who have won just 3 of the last 14. Boston's start to the season was fairly amusing as they lost 2-0 at Wrexham and they only drawing against lowly Shrewsbury and then another stalemate with currently bottom Stockport. A 3-0 defeat at Cheltenham, including a Ben Futcher sending off, was followed by a 1-0 defeat at Sheffield United. Another lowly side, this time Mansfield, took points from York Street after a 2-2 draw before the Cobblers beat the Pilgrims at Sixfields.

That game in Northamptonshire proved a turning point for Boston and despite yet more dropped points against a struggling team (a 2-2 away at Macclesfield), they soon won their first game when they beat Rochdale 3-2 at York Street. The following Saturday saw them make another trip to a Manchester suburb as they drew 1-1 at Bury. The first Lincolnshire derby of the season saw a 1-1 draw with Grimsby at York Street before yet another home draw, this time it was 1-1 at home to Darlo. However, 2 derbies, at home to Peterborough and away at Notts County, produced fine 1 goal victories before a 3-1 triumph over Bristol Rovers. A 4th win in a row came with a 2-1 win over Huddersfield in the LDV.

A 0-0 draw at Oxford was followed by a home win over Torquay, however, resulted then started to slip. A 2-2 FA Cup draw at Swindon was followed a Friday night, injury time defeat at Rushden. However, in the FA Cup replay, Boston thrashed Swindon 4-1. Notts County gained their revenge for the defeat at Meadow Lane by winning 2-1 at York Street. An embarrasing 3-0 defeat at home to Kidderminster in the LDV was followed by their last win, a 2-1 home victory over Wrexham. Doncaster Rovers eliminated them from the FA Cup with a 2-1 win at York Street before 3 successive draws at Wycome and Shrewsbury, as well as at home to Cheltenham.
