Reaction to the Chester win

We bring you the usual set of reactions for the game against Chester in which the Imps actually managed to win (seriously). It was a game of firsts, it was the first win in 7 weeks, first home win in 11 weeks, Logan's first goal for the club and Asamoah's first goal since August (Seriously)

What's this I see, could it be possible? Did we actually win a game? I must say that it did seem like the same usual thing was happening, we controlled the majority of the game but then found ourselves 1-0 down from a breakaway goal from our old friend, Mr Richardson, however, unlike previous weeks, we showed the character to go on and win the game and it was definatly one of the better Imps' performances in recent weeks and most imporantly, two of the goals came from strikers.

Whilst we're on the subject of strikers, we must talk about Asamoah, today he would have been worthy winner of man of the match, in virtually every area of the pitch, he was closing down the ball and putting the opposition under tremendous pressure and took his goal really well.

On a comedy value note, when we were 1-0 down, myself and my friend Grundy were saying how we couldn't see where either the either the next win or the next goal was going to come from, within 90 seconds, we were winning.

If the Imps are fortunate to win on Friday night against Oxford, we will definatly be in the top half of the table for at least 19 hours, however, the most vital part of winning today, was again increasing the gap between us and the relegation places and also, starting to put a run together.

 

"I've been saying for weeks that we've been doing alright, first half was another good performance, with nothing to show for it. You say to the players, keep doing what you're doing, keep it tight and we've got a good chance but then you conceed a sloppy goal"

"I think he (Logan) has been playing well but goalscoring is a problem, but he took his chance well, he'd had a couple of chances earlier on but all credit to him, it's great for him to get a goal."

"Paul had to redeem himself for the mistake he made. One or two people gave him a boo but it was a good penalty. I thought we deserved the win and it's been coming. I think Asamoah should score more, which isn't a lot but Asamoah does a lot more for the team and he's done well for me."

"Obviously disappointed that we lost but overall, I don't think we deserved anything, but the referee certainly didn't help."

"Marcus took his goal well but overall, that was one of the few high points of the afternoon and if we are going to challenge for promotion, we can't keep playing like that"

"We were beaten by a better team who were up for it. You can blame our injury problems and the flu bug keeping players out, but at the end of the day, if the players that come in, don't put the effort in, then you don't deserve anything out of the game. It was a very disappointing performance from the side but to be fair, the referee didn't help"

 

"It's typical really, we beat Forest at home and Leyton Orient away but then we lose at Lincoln, with no disrespect to them, we should be beating a team who were 14 places below us in the table at the start of play. Very disappointed overall but based on the game, we can't have any real complaints."
