Imps travel to the 1000 club

City face a tricky trip to struggling Bury who this season, became the first side to record 1000 goals in every league. However, only 2 wins so far, sees the managerless Shakers currently sit 23rd in the division and unless things improve soon, they'll go down with tremendous financial difficulties

The usual midweek win at home now means that Imps could potentially move into the playoff places, if they can beat struggling Bury at Gigg Lane. With most of the players impressing on Tuesday night, this will be an added oppurtunity for several players to stake a claim for a permanent place in the squad. However, anyone thinking that this will be an easy game is in for a surprise.

Many were surprised when Steve Robinson was put straight into the side for Tuesday's game after 3 months out injured, however, it paid off and he has given himself a great chance of another starting place. Beevers is set to return from injury but Marriott and Morgan are still both suspended for the scenes at the end of the Torquay game a few weeks ago.

Bury made history this season as they became the first ever side to record 1000 goals in every division in the football league. However, that has been one of the few highlights so far as they have been struggling. They suffered an opening day defeat at Cheltenham before losing at home to Orient. However, they did record their first win against Shrewsbury Town 4 days after the Orient defeat. However, a trip to still unbeaten Wycombe followed and the Shakers were on the end of a 4-0 thumping before a 3-0 defeat to Leicester ended their interest in the Carling Cup.

A draw at home to Wrexham was followed by a loss at Macclesfield. A home defeat to Carlisle was followed by 2 creditable draws at Northampton and at home to Bury. However, Graham Barrow was sacked just before the 2-1 defeat at Oxford. Former Manchester United player, Chris Casper took temporary charge and guided them to a 1-0 win over Bristol Rovers in midweek.

Bury are still managerless with Casper currently keeping the seat warm, although the former defender has stated his interest in the job.

Meetings with Bury are often boring and predictable. Last season, City went to Gigg Lane at the end of August, on the back of 4 straight defeats but a goal in the last minute of the first half from Matt Bloomer gave the Imps all the points against a Bury side who hardly managed a shot.

The game at Sincil Bank on New Years Day was very similar as the Imps controlled the game but only came away with a 1-0 victory thanks to Craig Westcarr's 8th minute striker.
