Yet another poor Lincoln performance saw Peterborough come away from Sincil Bank with a 2-1 victory on Saturday. Peterborough had the ball in the net 4 times and outplayed the Imps in every department. City were awful to say the least and a 2-1 defeat doesn't indicate how truly bad we were

Peterborough kicked off the game but it was City who caused the first thread on the Posh goal in the 4^th minute when Asamoah burst through the back line and passed the ball back to Mayo who shot well wide. Peterborough should have taken the lead minutes later when Northern Ireland International, James Quinn flicked the ball to Crow, who was one on one with Marriott but his chip over the un-rushing keeper went wide of the goal.

 

Birch sent in a shot from the edge of the area in the 11^th minute but it was well parried by the Tyler and the keeper was called into action again minutes later to save Scott Kerr’s free kick. Crow had another excellent opportunity to put the Imps into the lead after a mistake from Beevers and the striker raced through, however, a last minute tackle from Morgan prevented a likely goal.

 

Asamoah knocked a ball down inside the area but his pass to Birch saw the former Kidderminster striker blast the ball well over the bar. It wasn’t exactly a game full of chances up until this points but good work between Birch and Keates saw the former almost score. He volleyed the ball goalwards from an awkward angle and only a world-class save from Tyler prevented City going 1-0 up.

 

Peterborough had the ball in the net for the first time in afternoon just after the half an hour mark after Newton curled the ball around the wall and it nestled into the corner, however, the free-kick had been taken too quickly for the referee’s liking and the goal didn’t count. The retake simply hit the wall and came back out. It turned out to be the last decent chance of the first half.

 

Peterborough have the first chance of the second half when Burton’s free kick was deflected wide by Kerr. Newton tried his luck 7 minutes later but his long range effort was easily saved by Marriott. City’s next half chance came when a ball into the box was chased by Asamoah but Tyler easily smothered the ball.

 

City then engaged in a game of musical statues when a quick free kick was pumped into City’s box, no Lincoln player reacted and Quinn had the simple task of heading into the (near enough) unguarded goal and make it 1-0 to the Posh.

 

Quinn had the ball in the net again just minutes later but his close range shot was from a position about 15 yards offside. However, it was quickly 2-0 after another case of statuesque defending by the Imps as Gain ran by Beevers and sent a goal across goal, Quinn missed the ball but Newton managed to get his knee to it and put the ball into the net and Peterborough had the lead that deflected their general control of the game up until that point.

 

The game then became trivial as both sides knew that Peterborough had won it. Peterborough were more than happy to let the Imps have the ball and come at them but until the 85^th minute, City wasted everything but then can a moment of brilliance. A cross was put into the box and Dean Keates did a brilliant bicycle kick and scored easily the best goal of the game.

 

City however couldn’t find the equaliser and suffered their first home defeat since the beginning of March.
