Reaction and pics to the County game.
By Nathan Jackson August 14 2005
As usual, we bring you our reaction and the pictures from the games, today it's the 2-1 away defeat to Notts County. Despite taking the lead, City eventually crumbled due to a Jamie McCombe own goal and a brilliant Baudet free kick and this game truly showed the Jekyll and Hyde tendences of the Imps

I finally think I've noticed what City's problem is. IN the first half, City were playing the quality of football that wouldn't have looked out of place in the Premiership and the ball very rarely left the ground. The half, at one point, even including City putting together a 30 pass movement that almost resulted in a brilliant team goal. However, as soon as the own goal went in (and I don't give a toss what any County fans or officials think, it was quite clearly a McCombe own goal, just watch the highlights if you don't believe me) we started back on the long ball and all of a sudden, we were crap again.

Notts County weren't even that impressive to be honest and barely got a look-in in the first half as they were run ragged. Infact, if long-ball was an art form then Notts County are the Van Gogh's of the art. Their first goal was as Route 1 as it gets.

"I felt we were in control for the majority of the game but we didn't get that little bit of luck that you need."

"We're very disappointed not to have a win so far as we've played reasonably well in all 3 games. It's disappointing to come with a good support but the fans will be no more disappointed than we are"

"Gareth (McAuley) failed a fitness test this morning which was disappointing but we've got players there who think they should be in the team. I put Fossie (Luke Foster) in as I knew it was going to be a battle. It was a good battle and I thought he did well.

"I'm going to be honest, I'm delighted about scoring but I don't remember too much about it. I remember that Andy White just busting a gut to get there and help the ball get to me and I got a foot to it and put it past their keeper. It's always nice to score a goal" - Andy Scoffham (that's funny considering you didn't put any ball past any keeper. You hit a ball that our defender tried to clear and HE hit it past our keeper)

"I believe 4-3-3 would be more beneficial, but then again I'm not the Manager, also I have faith in KA to get us back up there, he did last year." mayo_legend (impsight)

"I am bloody sick of people moaning about us after we loose or draw. You just have to accept it, we aren't going to win every match or play well every game. and people who question Keith alexander is quite unbelievable none of the other managers we have had would have got us to 3 play offs and have expect us to challenge top 3. and also 3 games gone, and we lost one so its not that bad. i fully respect Keith and his comments and team selection and so should everyone else by supporting him and not slating him off. his reasons for putting foster up front are ok, he was a striker and you use what you have on the pitch first before you use subs." mightyimp1 (impsight)

"I think Edwards is not getting the credit he deserves. He continually gets a foot in and has won more headers than anyone at Notts in midfield for years. He is part of the reason for Notts good defensive start to the season."

"The first half was shaded by Lincoln despite the scoreline with the Imps winning most of the 50-50 challenges but Notts looking fairly resilient once more. Up front Notts were poor with White having a shocker and Scoffham (in this viewers opinion) having little threat and once more demonstrating that his first touch and awareness are insufficient for this division. It was no surprise when Lincoln took the lead with a thumping drive from outside the box leaving Pilks with no hope. There was however more than a hint of offside in the buildup as the Lincoln player making the initial challenge appeared to come from an offside position ( I was sat bang in line). That said the current ruling is so confusing who knows and the strike was worthy of a goal."
