Lincoln City in 2 goal throwaway shock : Part 236
By Nathan Jackson August 29 2005
How many times are Lincoln going to take a 2 goal lead before they stop playing and the other team equalises? City had taken a 2-0 lead going into half time, however, early in the second half, a foul was Marriott was ignored as Chester scored and a controversial penalty and Morgan sent off.

City kicked off the game but it was a while before any oppurtunities came around. City gained 2 quickfire corners in the 5th minute but rather unsurprisingly, neither came to anything. Molango was to have the next chance after McCombe had flicked on Beevers' throw, however, the on-loan striker could only aim his shot straight at the Chester goalkeeper.

Marriott was soon called into action and made an excellent save from Michael Branch's 20 yard effort and the ball rolled out for a corner. Ex-Imp Marcus Richardson was the next to have a chance but his shot was blocked by Morgan before Ben Davies collasped in the area but the referee simply laughed at his penalty appeal.

The game was proving to be pretty even with a collection of half chances filling the middle period of the first half and the game quickly got dirty with the referee having to get in the middle of several flaring tempers. Keith Curle was then believed to have said (and caught on radio) for ex-Imp, Luke Dimech to go down clutching his face next time he got near a Lincoln player. However, the referee was far from impressed with the acting.

The half was coming to an end when Birch sent a cross into the box but Mackenzie caught the ball easily. However, Birch released Green down the right and the striker  put the ball into the box where Nat Brown was waiting to head the ball into the back of the net and make it 1-0 to the Imps.

City made it 2-0 four minutes later when a Paul Mayo free kick was volleyed into the back of the net to double the Imps' advantage and surely the first away win was on the way. It should have been 3-0 just a minute later when Molango when he raced clear of the defence but his shot was well saved by Mackenzie.

City characteristically relaxed in the second half and it was soon 2-1 through controversial circumstances. Marriott came off his line to collect a ball but was being pushed (as in properly being pushed) and Ben Davies had the task of simply putting the ball in the net. Marriott immediatly ran over to the referee and was booked for his troubles and now, all of a sudden, there was a game on.

Mayo however should have re-established the lead just minutes later though but his 40 yard shot went inches over the bar. Keith made the same substitution that brought City to life last Saturday, when Asamoah replaced Molango. The striker should have been awarded a penalty when Luke Dimech quite clearly fouled him within the area but when was the last time City got one of those decisions?

The second half calmed down and when it was announced that there would be 4 minutes of injury time, you knew that something had to happen. Ryan Lowe ran into the area after a mistake by Paul Morgan, the Imps captain won the ball back in the area, but the former Shrewsbury man acted like he'd be shot and the home side were awarded a 94th minute penalty. As if that wasn't bad enough, Paul Morgan ran over to the referee and started pushing the referee and was subsequently sent off. Morgan could now face a 10 match ban. Michael Branch converted the penalty and it's now 2 draws from 2 in the 2005/6 season.
