Pictures and Reaction from Northampton game
By Nathan Jackson August 29 2005
In a return to a feature last season, we look at several different sources for views on the game against Northampton Town and the added photos. As usual, we get reaction from myself, Keith, Colin Calderwood, City fans and the Town fans. Also, sorry about the small amount of photos, oh well.

Did I really predict 4th? It's a good thing I'm rubbish at predictions because this was far from a "promotion" chasing side and we were lucky to get a point. I've heard Keith say that Colin Cryan was excellent in the game, what game were you watching Keith? I only saw him touch the ball 3 or 4 times all match.

If you've read the match report, you'll notice I very rarely mention Northampton attacks but that's because they hardly had any. They controlled the game up until City's goal but failed to create any decent chances other than that goal. However, after City's goal, there really was only one team that looked like winning it and let's just say this, they weren't playing in black.

On the positive side though, the contribution of Asamoah when he came on was impressive and he was unlucky not to score with a very good bit of improvisation near the end. I'd have taken a point before the game but in all honest, we'll have to play a LOT better to even get near the playoffs.

Match Photos can be viewed here, http://photobucket.com/albums/a291/northamptonhome/. Apologies for the lack of photos, I found myself to interested in the game. This also provides a view (all be it dodgy) of the Northampton fan's celebrations after the goal.

"Yes, I am very satisfied and it was a very difficult game and they are fancied to win it (the league) so very pleased with a point."

"I think we paid Northampton the respect they deserved because they're a good team but we put them onto the back foot. There were times in the first half where our passing was poor but everyone says we only play long ball, yet they played the same, if not more long balls and yet you hear no complaining about them doing it.

"I'm delighted with the performance as they're the first decent team we've played this season in a while"

"We came to a side who will be at the right end of the table and no-one can say we didn't deserve a point. Our disappointment was that we were ahead and we let them back into it but that was our only lapse."

"Lincoln have changed a lot of players over the summer but the tactics stay the same and they're very hard to break down. Not many teams will come here and win"

"It was a super goal from Pedj Bojic and it capped a fine display from him, but all over the pitch, the players did very well" - Colin Calderwood

"I defy anybody to take anything positive out of that 'performance' today. If it has taken KA all summer to come up with that formation we are doomed. 2 centre halves in midfield? Nobody on the pitch anywhere who can pass a ball to a red and white shirt - let alone play a pass which may hurt the opposition. We had nothing upfront and nothing in the middle. It's going to be a very long season if we have to watch that at home. It was as if KA had settled for 0-0 before we even started. Keates and Kerr must be pleased they came.." mintymatt (impsight)

"An evenly matched game - they shaded th first half and we shaded the second - good all round performance apart from their goal - that guy should have been picked up about 30 yards out - the new guys played OK - pick of the bunch was probably Cryan - but the back line played really well - the midfield and frontmen are still settling in - with more choice KA will probably pick the team for the occasion depending on the opposition." - harbymuskan (impsight)

"After having been in front, am disappointed we didnt hold on to the lead.

Thought 1st half we were great. They didnt really have a sniff. Had them penned back in their own half. Didnt vreate that many chances, but had the ball and didnt really give it away. Dyche was awesome , won everyhting, and also showed some neat touches.

2nd half, up to us scoring, again looked solid, without creating too much, but again didnt look as if we were going to concede.

It was a little strange that after we scored, they seemed to step it up, and we seemed to relax  a little. Their goal was a bit of a crappy one to let in, ball bobbling all over the place, we didnt clear it, and it fell for their player. Disappointing after being so solid up to that point.

After that, it was mostly Lincoln, but unlike last year we didnt cave in.

The big thing for me, was that last season, we would have ended up losing that game 2.1, but we didnt, and did exactly what Sean dyche said we need to do, at the trust meeting on Thursday. We dug in, and got the point. " chappers_cobbler (www.thehotelend.cjb.net)
