Last Season Talk about potential unfulfilled. Notts County were tipped by many as being a potential force in the division and with a proven goalscorer at this level in Gavin Gordon, I agreed with these people and it's amazing that their inconsistency was as irratic as all other teams in the division, infact, for a long time, the oldest club in the world looked like going out of the league all together but towards the end of the season, their overall quality of the other relegation battlers.
County were one of only 2 teams to beat the Imps twice last season and I have to say, they were one of the more impressive teams that I have seen in recent years but some unnessacerily big defeats said it all about their season, a 5-1 thumping at relegation rivals Rushden, a 4-0 defeat at Boston, as well as a 5-0 home defeat to Macclesfield said it all about a team that only had back to back wins twice in the whole of last season. The ironic thing is that all their wins came between the Lincoln games, a 2-1 win in August signalled their first win of the season and a 1-0 win in April signalled their last win.
This season? County have made some very impressive pre-season signings, especially that of former Mansfield and Man Utd keeper, Kevin Pilkington who often puts in impressive performances and is rated as one of the best keepers in the division. They've also kept onto their best players and brought in a proven manager in Thurdor Gudjohnson and County definatly pocess the ability to progress up the table if they can get rid of the inconsistency level.
Prediction 7th, a much improved season will result in a playoff appearance, and as my predictions have gone, that would put them up against the Imps.
