From Promotion to Palmer
By Nathan Jackson
July 23 2005
The only thing that stook out more than Yeo's nose last season was when Mansfield's turning point came. Mansfield were heading for promotion until Curle was sacked and Palmer took over and if they continue with that form, they would be very prime candidates for relegation this season.

Name Mansfield Town

Location Mansfield, Nottinghamshire

Manager Carlton Palmer

Ground Name Field Mill

Capacity 10,000

Address Quarry Lane

Last Season Now, there isn’t a single team last season in this division that had a turning point as obvious as Mansfield. In October, they were heading for a automatic promotion spot but then, incidents at the club saw Keith Curle suspended as manager as was eventually sacked.

Mansfield’s slide was immediate as the team who were tipped for the title by a few, didn’t win for 11 games and although a mini revival sparked around Christmas, only seven wins in 2005 says it all.

This season? As soon as Palmer came in, virtually every player they had under Curle started disappointing and their squad this season looks very dodgy to say the least. Having lost a lot of key players, they’ve struggled to replace them with an abundance of talent and I can’t honestly see how Palmer is planning this season, I mean, he’s only managed 2 clubs and the other one got relegated.

I have a soft spot for Mansfield, having been born just up the road in Sutton In Ashfield but I really don’t think they’ll do well this season.

Prediction 22nd, as I said, I have a soft spot for them but with Palmer in charge, they aren’t going to do well and will be lucky to avoid the drop if they’re not careful.
