Macc want to prove it wasn't a fluke

Macclesfield will go into the 2005/6 season with the intention of proving that last season wasn't a complete fluke. After years of relegation battles, Macclesfield suddenly burst up the division and like when City first achieved it, they're determined to prove that they aren't one season wonders.

Name Macclesfield Town

Location Macclesfield, Cheshire

Manager Brian Horton

Ground Name Moss Rose

Capacity 6,335

Address London Road, Macclesfield

Last Season With new owners at the helm, Macclesfield had gone on a mini spending spree and had managed to lure Mark Bailey away from Sincil Bank. A lot were predicting a good season from Macclesfield but no one could have imagined they'd win their first 3 games. However, they soon struggled for consistency but still stayed around the promotion area due to other team's poor form.

Everyone expected their playoff dreams to die off but then 9 wins in 11 games, including a 5-0 win away at Notts County, propelled them into the automatic promotion places. However, 6 games without a win after that saw them eventually settle in the playoffs and we all know what happened to them in there.

Last season, Macc showed that anyone can have realistic chances of promotion with the right manager, players and tactics, tactics which saw them refered to as the team who "if long ball was an art form, then Macclesfield would be the Picasso's and Van Gogh's of the world"

This season? Well Macclesfield have signed several good players including Rochdale's Kevin Townson and even took from City again as they lured Kevin Sandwith to Moss Rose. However, they have lost Matt Tipton, a striker who promises a minimum 15 goals a season and that could ultimately prove costly in the promotion hunt.

Prediction 8th, although a disappoint for the Macc fans, they will have shown the division that they aren't a "one-off" and only just miss out on the playoffs.
