We smell fish going up?
By Nathan Jackson July 18 2005
Grimsby Town become my first surprise prediction as I think they'll do really well this coming season, finishing 3rd. Some impressive signings from the Mariners including an international player, could ultimatley lead to promotion if they played play well enough, but are they up for the challenge.

Name Grimsby Town

Location Cleethorpes, North East Lincolnshire

Manager Russel Slade

Ground Name Blundell Park

Capacity 10,033

Address Blundell Park, Cleethorpes

Main Telephone No 01472-605-050

Last Season After 2 straight relegations, 2004/5 was all about stopping the slide and starting to rebuild their reputation. Again, like most clubs last season, inconsistency was a major problem, the best example of this came in August when one Saturday, they thrashed Bury 5-1 but then lost 1-0 to Rushden a week later. When City played them at Sincil Bank, they were one of the better sides we played last season and if they had kept playing like that, they could have possibly joined City in the playoffs but the gaps between wins was too great and only twice did they achieve back to back wins.

Overall, an 18th placed finish was extremely disappointing for the Cleethorpes club but after 2 relegations in a row, they're probably a bit thankful they didn't make it 3 in a row.

This season? Grimsby have made some rather impressive pre-season signings including ex-Imp Ciaran Toner and Congo international, Jean Paul and Grimsby could be a force this season. After watching Grimsby a few times last season, I must say that 18th was definatly not where they deserved to be an a top half finish was more like it but this season should change with the arrival of the 2 above players and several other eye catching purchases.

Prediction 3rd, 3rd???????? 3rd I hear you gasp? Well as I say, Grimsby were a side that gave us the biggest 0-0 battering we've had in recent years at Sincil Bank and didn't look to shabby in all the other games I saw them in the last season the new signings could end up bringing glory to Grimsby as they slowly climb back up the league.
