Did they deserve it and will they get it?
By Nathan Jackson July 17 2005
Based on what City saw last season, Darlo didn't deserve a high enough place in the division, however, not everyone agreed. Several other teams said Darlo were the best they'd ever played and claim they were unlucky not to get into the playoffs. Will it be different for them this season?

Name Darlington

Location Darlington, County Durham (Up North!)

Manager David Hodgson

Ground Name Williamson Motor Stadium

Capacity 27,500

Address Neasham Road, Darlington

Main Telephone No 01325-387-000

Last Season Darlo were one of the surprise packages of the 2004/5 season. After struggling to stay up in 2003/4, they had sold their leading goalscorer to Barnsley and the future looked bleak. However, several incredible coups saw Darlo build up a head of steam and start challenging for the playoffs. Whether they deserved to be up there is not though is up for debate. City destroyed Darlington at their amusingly empty ground and despite a relatively even game at Sincil Bank, I didn’t see anything what warranted a playoff spot.

However, if you look on the message board, you will find a user called “Matt Jones”. This guy is a Darlo fan and claimed they were extremely good for most of last season, hence the reason for debate. Then again, he saw them more than twice last season so maybe they did deserve to finish as high up as they did.

This season? Darlo are one of those teams who you just can’t predict properly, inconsistency rules most of their game. They have extremely talented players and a stadium that is arguably the best in the division. However, you don’t win based on the stadium or based on talented players, you do it on a talented TEAM. Darlo however, will more than likely finish in the playoffs this season due to the division being so poor.

Prediction 6th, although this would be considered a good season, you can never guarantee anything with Darlo. However, they should get into the playoffs, however, whether they do well in the playoffs will depend mainly on how well Hodgson gets rid of the inconsistency level.
