Golden chance to get points
By Nathan Jackson October 29 2004
The Imps have a golden chance to gain 3 points against struggling Cambridge United. Cambridge have only won twice this season and are dangerously around the drop zone but a massive injury blow for the Imps could spell danger.

INTRODUCTION

Frustrating was the word mainly used after last Saturday's last minute 4-3 home defeat to Leyton Orient. The Imps lead 3 times and were almost always on top but let it slip and 2 goals in the final 20 minutes sealed the points for Orient.

A week later and the Imps have a golden oppurtunity to redeem themselves and get much needed points on the board as they travel down to struggling Cambridge United. However, these games aren't exactly the most exciting and 8 of the last 9 meetings between the two clubs, have bene draws.

+TEAM NEWS FOR THE IMPS

Paul Morgan is the most major absentee which leg problems and will be out for a few weeks which will more than likely see McCombe step into his place and with Futcher back from suspension, the heights of the Imps central defence will be 6'6, 6'5 and 6'4, not exactly pleasing viewing if your strike force is quite short like Cambridge are quite well known for. Taylor-Fletcher is also expected to return from injury and start in place of either Green or Yeo.

The fight for the left back position is well and truly on with Sandwith looking a bit below par last Saturday, it has opened up the chance for Nathan Peat to regain his place and with Michael Blackwood nearly back from injury, neither will want to make a major mistake.

CAMBRIDGE UNITED

Cambridge are languishing down at the foot of the table again. After nearly making the playoffs in 2002/3, last season saw a relegation battle and this season looks very similar. They have 3 ex-Imps playing for them in Justin Walker, Danny Webb and Stuart Bimson although Bimmo hasn't even made the squad for any of the games since Harve Renard took over.

Cambridge's season hasn't exactly blossomed. They have only won twice this season, at home to Shrewsbury (1-0) and Bristol Rovers (1-0). 6 defeats sees them ominously overlooking the relegation places.

PREVIOUS RESULTS AGAINST CAMBRIDGE UNITED

Remember earlier when I said 8 of the last 9 games have been draws? Well in the last two seasons, both fixtures have had exactly the same scoring with both Sincil Bank games ending 2-2 and both games at the Abbey ending 0-0.
