Donny visit signals beginning of the LDV
By Nathan Jackson September 26 2004
The Imps get a welcome break from league action when Doncaster Rovers visit on Tuesday in the first round of the LDV Vans Trophy. It will be a tough tie for the Imps who still haven't won at home in the league this season.

INTRODUCTION

4 games undefeated but yet more home despair for the Imps after Saturday's 1-1 draw with Chester as yet another side came to Sincil Bank, didn't have a shot from open play and still came away with a point. However, we get a nice little distraction in the form of the LDV Vans Trophy, a competition that in the last few years, City have done well in. In 2000/1, the Imps reached the Northern Final but went out 2-0 to Port Vale on aggregate. The next 2 years saw the Imps go out in the first and second rounds respectivly but last year saw the Imps make the quarter finals when the Imps lost 1-0 at Halifax in what was arguably, the worst performance of the season.

+TEAM NEWS FOR THE IMPS

Keith, please stop playing defenders up front, it isn't working at all. We all know however that is what Keith is going to do no matter what so we can expect to see McCombe upfront. With Marriott injured, it is also likely that Raynor. GTF might also sit out because he's still a bit injured and we need him for Saturday's game at Mansfield.

Possible City line-up (right to left)

Raynor

Bloomer  Futcher  McAuley  Morgan   Peat

Butcher  Gain

Richardson   Carruthurs   McCombe

DONCASTER ROVERS

The last few years have been massive for Donny. 2002/3 saw them promoted back to the league via the Conference playoff victory over Dagenham. Last season, the shocked everybody and to their eternal credit, did a double promotion and were promoted to League 1 via the playoffs.

This season has been a mixed start with 3 league wins and 4 defeats including a 5-0 loss at Bournemouth at the weekend. They are however, now the lowest placed team left in the Carling Cup after victories over Port Vale (3-1) and Ipswich (2-0) which has set up a nice little tie with Nottingham Forest in the 3rd Round

PREVIOUS RESULTS AGAINST DONCASTER ROVERS

Doncaster haven't beaten Lincoln for a very long time, last season looked to be their chance but in the two meetings, the Imps would prove to be the only side in the Division to stop Donny scoring, beating them 2-0 and a 0-0 draw. Doncaster's last win over the Imps was in the 1994/5 season

SEASON 2003/4

Doncaster Rovers 0 Lincoln City 2
