Poor Imps lose again
By Nathan Jackson
September 2 2004
The Imps lost again to local rivals Notts County to edge dangerously close to the relegation zone. Another poor City performance was only slightly made more entertaining by GTF's 6th goal in 6 games this season.

Alexander stuck with the same team that 4 days earlier, had beat Championship side Derby County but it didn't start well for either team as there wasn't a single chance in the first 10 minutes for either side.

Yeo had two great oppurtunities. The first (of his and the game) came from a Peter Gain cross but Yeo's shot went a fair way over. The second was exactly the same but with Blackwood delivering the cross instead of Gain.

Tony Scully had County's first oppurtunity minutes later when City conceeded a free kick in a similar place to where Derby scored from days earlier. However, Scully's excellent free kick was given an equally good save from Marriott.

Scully did however eventually find the net after Hurst broke into the box but his shot hit the post but Scully was there with enough time to stop, control and tap into the empty net.

Green was a half time substituiton and went straight into the action but his venemous shot went straight into the hands of the Notts County keeper.

A succession of free kicks 15 minutes later resulted in it being 2-0 to County after a through ball from Hurst was hammered home by Scully to send the rathered pathetic number of 900 County fans into raptures (it's pathetic because Notts is only 30 miles away)

There was some opportune glimmer of hope for Lincoln, when County goalkeeper Henderson, who is on loan from Aston Villa, was forced to leave the pitch with an injury; Henderson was replaced by Saul Deeney, who was making only his twelfth appearance for County in five years. That change though, merely inspired County, who saw Williams send a shot over the bar in the 67th minute, after good work by Pipe.

A comedy moment then followed as County briefly made it 3-0 when Hurst handled the ball Maradona style after a cross was going too high. He slapped the ball down and smashed it in but only got a yellow card for his troubles.

City did however get a consolation in the 4th minute of injury time when a Green cross was hit forward by Pearson who's shot took a deflection off Taylor Fletcher for his 6th goal in 6 games.

Theimps.tk - Lincoln City MAN OF THE MATCH - Unfortunatly I have to pick an actual player rather than myself for coming off my holiday to watch this crap but I would otherwise choose Green as he yet again, really rejuvenated the Imps.

Theimps.tk - Lincoln City WHERE WERE YOU - Peter Gain, yet again he just seems absent, doesn't seem bothered, seems arrogantly to think he's better than everyone else. Blames the defence for this season so far yet you never see him back defending. In fact, is there anything he actually does do?
