Predictions for 2004/5 : Scunthorpe - Yeovil
By Nathan Jackson
July 29 2004
So with our final 6 teams to look at, we still have to give out one relegation and the final automatic promotion place with some high quality clubs like erm, Yeovil and erm....ok, it really becomes now question as to who our favourites for the last promotion place goes to.

SCUNTHORPE UNITED - PREDICTION 8TH

Scunny, Scunny, Scunny, what can you say about a team that sacked their manager only to re-hire him only 3 weeks later because they couldn't find anyone better who wanted the job. Scunthorpe United relied so much on Steve McClean last season, it was the fact that if his goals were taken out, they'd have finished bottom by quite some way. Scunny however, proved very good for the majority of the season despite of their performances against the Imps. They looked to be heading for the playoffs again last season before a terrible run saw an end to that and they finished one place above the relegation zone and only secured their safety on the penultimate day thanks in a way to Lincoln, who if we hadn't beat Carlisle the week before, would mean that if results had stayed the same, Scunny might not have escaped relegation afterall.

Anyway, Scunny will probably be back to normal next season although another season outside of the playoffs could prove to be a turning point in Scunthorpe's history.

SHREWSBURY TOWN - PREDICTION 23RD - RELEGATED

Shrewsbury Town are a team I didn't really know much about last season despite going to watch them a feew times. Other than that, I had the occasional look at the conference table and saw they were around the playoff picture and then they won them.

However, they were so bad when they went down, that surely they won't be able to maintain that good run and end up in a low league position and I have a funny feeling they will become the first ever team to be relegated straight back to the conference the first year after winning promotion.

SOUTHEND UNITED - PREDICTION 20TH

Southend United were another 1 man team. This is proven by the fact that Leon Constantine arrived and all of a sudden, they were on playoff form. However, the other players proved inferior and they eventually finishing near relegation. Now Leon is gone and it's hard to see how Southend will survive this season.

SWANSEA CITY - PREDICTION 11TH

Swansea City were the biggest 1 man team I'd ever seen. It's no coincidence that they failed to win a single game that Trundle didn't play (which was quite a lot). Swansea looked like potential champions but when the IMPS became the first team to get a point there, it all went downhill and they ended up nowhere near the playoffs and midtable looks likely this season.

WYCOMBE WANDERERS - PREDICTION 10TH

Wycombe Wanderers are another team I didn't really pay attention to last season, all I know is that they were bottom for a very long time and were the first relegated team in any Division. I don't know enough about them to make a fair assessment so going by how usually relegated teams do well, I'll say 10th.

YEOVIL TOWN - PREDICTION 3RD

Yeovil Town were the most impressive team I saw last season (other than Torquay) and both games against them were the best I'd seen. They were the only club other than Torquay to do the double over the Imps and both were incredibly convincing displays. I get a feeling they'll do a Rushden and go up in their 2nd season of league football.
