Just over 4,500 saw Lincoln City play Nottingham Forest in the pre-season but there was more to talk about off the pitch before the game than on it. Lincoln had decided, rather than separate sets of local rival teams with a banner, the said banner, would instead cover an area that was being built so during the game, it came close to boiling point in which the police eventually got involved and mass fighting at half time saw 30 people ejected from the ground.
Anyway, on a more positive note, it was a nice and sunny afternoon in Lincolnshire with the Imps shooting towards the Mundy Stand end but Forest had the brighter start and produced the first effort on goal just after kickoff when a Marriott kick went straight to Gareth Taylor but the tall striker could only chip the ball straight into Marriott's hands.
City became to come into the game and had the best of the early chances to score when a free kick was jossled around in the box and eventually Futcher got a head to it but it went agonisingly wide.
The half went onto be evenly contested although Forest failed to produce any other decent chance in the half.
The next chance for City to score was Yeo bursting down the wing and onto the corner of the 18 yard box before unleashing a thunderbolt that was well saved by the Forest keeper.
Only Fletcher had another oppurtunity before half time but his low striker proved easy for the keeper.
The second half saw the Imps come out with a bang and after Forest gave the ball away, it eventually wound up at Yeo's feet. The quick striker quickly ran into the box and looked odds on favourite to score but his shot went miles wide after he scuffed it.
Yeo was yet again in the action when he chased after a defender and won the ball leaving him one on one with the keeper. He forced him wide but then his left footed shot went just wide.
Forest then had one of their few oppurtunities all game when Johnson broke down the right but his shot lacked the power or the accuracy to trouble Raynor who had replaced Marriott in goal.
The final oppurtunity came in the last minute when Ciaran Toner produce a spectacular volley which produced an equally impressive save from the keeper.
So overall, it wasn't a bad day for the Imps other than the violence. We look the same standard as Forest did and for a lot of the match, we outplayed them although there are still areas for improvement come the start of the season in two weeks time.
