Dominant Imps beat Swansea

A very dominant Imps performance has now surely destroyed any playoff dreams Swansea still had despite the Swans grabbing a shock/underserved lead just before half time. Goals from Peter Gain and Simon Yeo grabbed up 3 points to push City to 4th The Imps are 4th after putting in a home display which will go down in the memory as one of the most dominant performances with the worst finishing ever.

Swansea kicked off and a short pass back let in Francis Green who watched his toe poke go narrowly wide after only 9 seconds.

City continued the early pressure and it was Ben Sedgemore's volley that troubled Roger Freestone and City gained a corner but Fletcher's header was weak and easily caught by the former Welsh international.

Ben Sedgemore again tried a volley but this one when quite wide. Chance after chance came City's way and Swansea were waiting for it to happen as they produced the least offensive opening half ever seen at Sincil Bank by a team.......until the 43rd minute that is. City were to pay for their missed chances as a corner fell to the feet of Rees who took his time and smashed the ball Van Nistelrooy style to give Swansea a very undeserved lead.

The 2nd half began much as the 1st had with City dominating but this time they couldn't produce very many shots for their efforts and those that were produced were easily coped with by Freestone, that was however until around the hour mark when a long ball forward was latched onto by Peter Gain who's shot from the edge of the area superbly shot from the edge of the area to draw the Imps level.

City continued to be dominant and Swansea's goal, turned out to be their only shot on target in the entire game. It looked destined to finish 1-1 but then a cross from Bailey resulted in a header from Yeo looping over Freestone and into the net for 2-1 with very little time left.

City took their time about things and took the tempo of the game slower until the final whistle went to send City up to 4th in the table.
